Who We Are: SNHMC has nine operating room suites, 25 pre-op/PACU bays, and a sterile processing department. Hours are flexible, with 8-, 10-, and 12-hour day shifts available. The OR has a dedicated call team Sunday through Thursday nights beginning at 7PM, making OR call minimal. Services range from elective and non-elective procedures, including neurological, orthopedic, gynecological, urological, bariatric, colorectal, vascular, ENT, general, breast, and plastics. Surgical services are growing and evolving, utilizing the latest technology for the wide variety of procedures we perform. The OR also offers Periop-101 and advancements. About the Job: As a member of the Patient Care Services team, the Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) cares for patients aged 6 months through adulthood who require surgical/invasive interventions under one of the various types of anesthesia. Nursing care is delivered utilizing a patient-centered approach and incorporating the Professional Practice Model. The OR RN provides patient-centered care through teamwork and collaboration to achieve quality patient outcomes. He/She integrates best practices and current evidence-based practices for delivery of optimal health care. The OR RN uses data to improve quality and safety and uses informatics and technology to communicate, manage information, mitigate errors, and support decision making. What You’ll Do: Deliver nursing care by utilizing a patient-centered approach incorporating the Professional Practice Model. Quality, Safety and Experience Improvements 1. Responsible for VMS safety, quality idea boards on unit. 2. Accountable for the execution of daily and shift safety and clinical care huddles. 3. Rounds on existing and new patients, addressing issues or concerns of patients and/or families on the unit. 4. Responsible for the closure of Safety Intelligence reports and appropriate Corrective Action Plans in place. Responsible for reporting all Serious Reporting Events (SRE) to leadership and provide feedback to staff on results. 5. Links departmental goals to department of nursing/organizational goals and strategic plans. 6. Actively coordinates clinical quality improvement and safety efforts on the unit with defined medical center quality and safety goals. 7. Facilitates patient flow through timely admissions and discharges in collaboration with medical staff and case management to assure proper utilization of resources. 8. Works collaboratively to solve problems, improve processes and integrate services within the department and with other departments. 9. Develops and implements service initiatives on unit using/tailoring organizational tools and programs such as Because We Care, Our Commitments, etc. 10. The School Nurse also supports compliance with health mandates and ensures that school health policies are upheld. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: • Assess and evaluate students' health and its impact on educational progress • Counsel students, parents, and school personnel regarding health concerns • Identify students with health needs that interfere with learning • Provide programs for disease prevention and control • Coordinate school health services with other health and education professionals • Collaborate with community health programs and state agencies • Monitor school facilities for health and safety recommendations • Respond to health and social issues such as child abuse, substance use, nutrition, and teen pregnancy • Organize and conduct mandated health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis) • Act as a health resource for students, families, and school staff • Administer medications in accordance with school policy • Conduct home visits as needed to assess student health and home environment • Complete home evaluations and participate in special education team meetings • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student health records • Document first aid, illness care, and accident reports • Ensure compliance with immunization requirements and manage communicable disease protocols • Maintain appropriate first aid supplies and equipment • Perform other nursing duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: • Strong clinical nursing assessment and care planning skills • Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and staff • Knowledge of child development, pediatric, and community health issues • Understanding of state health mandates, laws, and school health policies • Ability to maintain confidentiality and accurate records • Skilled in collaboration and coordination with multidisciplinary teams • Proficiency in English; bilingual preferred • Ability to use electronic health records and documentation systems • Familiarity with public health resources and referral systems Qualifications & Requirements: • Graduate of a Professional Nursing Program approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing • Current license as a Registered Professional Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required • 1-3 years of experience in pediatrics, community health, or a related field • Eligible for certification in School Nursing by the Massachusetts Department of Education • Proficient in English; bilingual candidates preferred Equal Opportunity Employer Lawrence Public Schools is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive environment for employees and applicants.
