The North side houses 37 patients, and the South side houses 36 patients. There are two negative pressure rooms with an anti-room. There is a pharmacist present on the unit to assist the RNs with medication questions/concerns. Multidisciplinary rounds occur every Monday through Friday. Rounds involve all aspects of the healthcare team, including the patient and family. The Cardiology Intensive Care Unit (CICU)/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a 24-bed unit in the HUP Pavilion. All staff members in our unit are trained to care competently for both CICU and PCU patients. Once orientation is complete, they will split their time between caring for both levels of care. We manage a wide range of complex cardiac conditions, including cardiogenic shock, life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, acute myocardial infarction, advanced heart failure, adult congenital heart disease, postpartum cardiomyopathy, pulmonary hypertension, and acute coronary syndrome. Our unit is equipped to handle critically ill patients requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring and interventions, including central venous, arterial, and pulmonary artery catheters, mechanical ventilation, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) therapy, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), targeted temperature management (TTM), and ventricular assist devices (VADs and Impellas). Primarily a medical cardiology unit, we care for patients before durable VAD implantation, before organ transplant, and during any recurrent admissions, separate from the postoperative care area for invasive cardiothoracic/vascular surgery. Additionally, we provide care for patients undergoing pre- and post-cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology studies, and other minimally invasive cardiac procedures. These areas serve outpatient and inpatient patients who require procedures that require medical imaging to help diagnosis and treat certain problems. They see infants and adults. There are two sides to this. One group of nurses prepare and recover the patient following the procedure, while another group of nurses is in the rooms with the interventional radiologists and others to assist with the procedures. Some of these nurses do go over to MD Anderson for Radiologic cases scheduled over there. The nurse will assist in coordinating care for the orthopedic patients while triaging calls and my Penn medicine emails, along with other responsibilities. The position will be based out of the University City location and eventually a hybrid role. Summary: The Ambulatory Nurse II Colleague is an RN that practices as a full partner on the health care team and consistently demonstrates safe practice within the organizational professional practice model.
