Our Trauma Center is the only Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in the Midlands. A 30-bed medical surgical unit primarily geared towards adult patients requiring care after experiencing traumatic injury typically requiring surgical intervention. The standard nurse to patient ratio is 1:4 flexing up to 1:5 as needed. The unit is equipped with telemetry monitoring for up to 7 patients. Our patients are hemodynamically stable. Examples of these patients include those with injuries related to gunshot wounds or other penetrating injury, assaults, motor vehicle crashes, and falls. Four rooms are equipped to be used as "Safety Suites." These four rooms are for the care of the traumatic brain injury patient and are semi-private and closely monitored. The Spring Harbor Child and Adolescent service is a 34 bed, 4-unit, service providing care to youth from throughout Maine. Youth who require acute mental health treatment are typically imminent risk to themselves or others and are unable to receive treatment at a lower level of care due to the severity of their psychiatric symptoms. Role The Registered Nurse – Charge – Behavioral Health role assumes frontline leadership in the daily operations of the department and works collaboratively with departmental staff, physicians/advanced practice practitioners, hospital staff, pre-hospital providers and community agencies to provide oversight and direction for the delivery of safe patient and family centered care. Under the direction of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Director, plans, directs, organizes, coordinates, and evaluates overall clinical and administrative activities of an assigned nursing unit. In the absence of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Director, assumes ultimate responsibility for staff oversight and the care of patients on a nursing unit. Supervises, evaluates, guides and counsels nursing staff in their work performance. Ensures that staffing patterns provide optimal delivery of nursing service.
