Overview O.R. Same Day Surgery Per Diem, Monday – Friday Vaired 10 hour shifts 6:00am - 9:30pm (staggard start times) Our Same Day Program is a very busy 34-bed unit where patients are efficiently prepared for their surgery or procedures. A typical day we care for 50-70 patients. We also provide post anesthesia recovery care for those patients being discharged home the “same day” as their procedure. On the main unit we serve patients from 15 years through adulthood and in our separate pedi periop program we care for patients 14 and under. Within our department is a regional block program where patients receive sedation by our moderate sedation trained nurses while being administered a preoperative block before going into the OR for most commonly a joint replacement. Preadmission Services that utilize our program include but are not limited to orthopedics, gynecology, plastics, ENT, vascular, urology, radiology, cardiology and thoracic surgery. We are looking for experienced nurses that are team players and want to work in a busy 34 bed Same Day Surgery Program (SDP). Shifts are 10 hours between the hours of 6:00 am and 8:30 pm. Nurses must have current acute care hospital experience. Critical Care experience and IV skills are a plus. Same Day Program consists of an energetic and enthusiastic group of professionals that are engaged in sharing their knowledge of perioperative services! Responsibilities Practices consistently with applicable state nursing practice regulations, applicable ASC policies and procedures, and the ANA Code of Ethics. Ensures proper equipment is available and ready for surgical cases. Ensures safety measures including time out process, safe patient positioning, required surgical documentation, and surgical count process are appropriately performed. Assists anesthesia and surgeon with needs of the patient. Identifies opportunities for improved OR efficiencies. Communicates with colleagues professionally, with commitment to maintaining a respectful workplace culture and a safe learning environment. Complies with policies, procedures, and area-specific expectations related to maintaining a safe environment of care. Initiates reporting or action when needed to address safety concerns. Complies with policies, procedures and area-specific expectations related to: medication safety patient identification and specimen labeling activities documentation of patient information and patient care activities dependability, attendance, and scheduling Participates in staff meetings, required learning, attestation, competency, and training activities according to area-specific and organizational expectations. Independently monitors email and other communications as necessary to meet these expectations. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
