Trauma & Surgical ICU Nocturnist Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Position Overview: The Trauma & Surgical ICU Nocturnist Advanced Practice Provider (APP) delivers advanced, evidence-based care to critically ill and injured patients during consistent night shifts at The MetroHealth System’s Level I Adult Trauma Center. Working collaboratively with Trauma/Critical Care attending physicians, surgical residents, nursing, and other members of the multidisciplinary team, the APP provides overnight management of critically ill surgical patients, responds to changes in clinical condition, performs bedside procedures, and supports the ongoing care of patients within the Trauma and Surgical Intensive Care Unit. This position is designed for an APP interested in a dedicated nocturnist role and requires strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, procedural, communication, and decision-making skills. The APP should have a thorough understanding of trauma and surgical critical care, including the assessment, diagnosis, stabilization, and management of acute and critically ill patients. Key Responsibilities Provide overnight management of critically ill patients in the Trauma and Surgical Intensive Care Unit. Collaborate with Trauma/Critical Care attending physicians, surgical residents, APPs, nursing, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized plans of care. Evaluate new and evolving clinical concerns and respond to acute changes in patient condition throughout the night. Collect and interpret clinical data, including laboratory results, imaging, hemodynamic information, and other diagnostic studies, to develop and document assessments and treatment plans. Manage complex postoperative, critically ill, and medically fragile patients across surgical specialties, including trauma, emergency general surgery, transplant, vascular, and general surgery. Perform bedside procedures within the APP's scope of practice and clinical privileges, including central venous catheter placement, arterial line placement, chest tube placement and management, and other critical care procedures. Participate in ventilator management, hemodynamic management, resuscitation, and stabilization of critically ill patients. Respond to clinical emergencies and participate in resuscitation of deteriorating or unstable patients. Working with colleagues who love what they do and are deeply committed to our Mission, you too can be part of our transformation across the enterprise Full-Time Medical Assistant 3X 8 AM - 4:15 PM Scope of Duties: Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams within the Westchester office and supporting the Ortho Now program (Registration/Front Desk, Physician Practice, Research, EMG, TMS) Escorting patients to exam rooms and preparing them for examinations, reviewing patient statuses and assisting in obtaining patient data required for the rooming functions in Epic Support the department by assisting the physicians, nurses and other personnel by obtaining vital signs, lab specimens (skin biopsy, venipuncture) and EKG’s as needed Preparing specimens for the lab and ensuring hand-off to courier Foster efficient patient throughput, deliver excellent customer service, and establish and maintain an organized professional environment. Assist the physician in treatments and procedures and ensure physician orders are completed in a timely manner. Maintain sensitivity and awareness of cultural and religious diversity when addressing patients, visitors, co-workers and other customers. Participate in our supportive and team-oriented environment. Prepare patients for exams and orient patient/family to the environment Assist with disinfecting exam rooms and other clinical work space between patient use Assist patients with wayfinding and transport (e.g., wheelchair) throughout the site Assist in managing patient information, uploading CD images & making copies of pertinent exams Assist with patient rooming tasks (i.e., medical history, vital signs, pulse oximeter readings, height/weight, temperature, etc.) Assist with stocking exam rooms Ensure patient care areas are neat and presentable Provide exceptional customer service to all patients, visitors, and staff Respond to patient, visitor, and staff inquiries Additional responsibilities as directed Minimum Requirements High School diploma or equivalent to at least one year of experience as , Medical Assistant, or previous member of armed medical corps BLS Certification Non-Discrimination Policy Hospital for Special Surgery is committed to providing high quality care and skilled, compassionate, reliable service to our community in a safe and healing environment.
