The Obstetrical Technician provides supportive nursing care as a member of the health care team. The department includes functioning in a role between all three units including labor and delivery, NICU, and women’s health & newborn care. The role includes acting as a scrub technician during Cesarean Sections and maintaining of the Cesarean Section Delivery room. Employee responsible for a 30-minute response time to facility upon being called in. This position does have additional cesarean scrub call outside of scheduled hours, which typically consists of one 48 hour weekend of cesarean scrub call every 4 week period.(1900 on Friday to 1900 on Sunday) The Obstetrical Technician functions under the direction of the professional registered nurse. It is located on the 4th floor of the West Tower and is an open pod unit with a few private isolation rooms. The open pod unit fosters teamwork and collaboration amongst the nurses. Babies admitted to this unit may have been born at the Pavilion for Women, transferred in from other departments in our hospital, or from hospitals across Texas and beyond.
