HVPCU is an all RN staff and operates with a nurse patient ratio of 1:2-3, as well as a dedicated charge nurse free from a patient assignment. HVPCU is one of two inpatient units that care for advanced Heart Failure patients with Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs) and continuous inotrope support. With a mix of both medical and surgical service lines, the HVPCU nurse is well rounded in both types of nursing. Aside from vasopressors, the HVPCU manages and titrates multiple IV drips, and manages complex patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. The HVPCU RN is responsible for managing all aspects of patient care and coordinating with the multidisciplinary team for the best patient outcomes.
