What you will do Collaborates with physicians to provide for the specialized needs of the surgical patient. Builds trusting collaborative relationship with surgeons to ensure optimal outcomes. Anticipates supply equipment needs in advance so that arrangements can be made in a timely and cost effective manner. Monitor and support personal and departmental needs to include flexing and shift changes to meet the needs of the department. Uses time in a productive manner. Demonstrates a surgical conscience by maintaining an aseptic environment during the surgical procedure and by recording breaks in technique per AORN Standards. Demonstrates consistent proficient knowledge of procedure specific utilization of instruments, equipment, and supplies. Responsible for assuring safe practices as referenced in the National Patient Safety Goals and by following RHS policies and procedures, as well as guidelines outlined in AORN, CMS, and DNV. Identifies and reports noncompliance or violations appropriately. Ensures preference cards are maintained and updated by consistently communicating changes to appropriate team members. Demonstrates the ability to build collaborative professional relationships with a multi-disciplinary team to support patient care needs. Participates and provides feedback in supply utilization, new equipment/product evaluations; identifying and recommending solutions for cost containment and waste reduction. Participates positively in training and support of all team members, volunteers and students. Actively supports and assists the perioperative registered nurse and team in the care of the patients. Demonstrates responsibility for accurate handling/management of specimens and surgical count. Demonstrates a sense of urgency to facilitate positive customer throughout the department/facility. Addresses customers' needs regardless of assignment. Qualifications Education Program Graduate, Surgical Technology (Preferred) Experience 2 years Surgical Tech experience (Required) 1 year Surgical Tech experience at Riverside Health System (Required) Skills and Abilities The Surgical Technologist Level III must demonstrate competency in being able to scrub five (5) or more surgical specialties. This requirement is met by submitting a completed Surgical Technologist Tier Advancement Application with all required signatures.
