Coronary Care Unit (CCU) Intermediate Nurse RN 7p-7a

Overview The UF Health Cardiac Critical Care Service Line includes a 17-bed Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) and a 24-bed Coronary Care Unit (CCU) , united under one leadership team to provide seamless, high-quality care for adult cardiac medicine and cardiac surgery patients from admission through discharge. The CVICU delivers high-acuity critical care, including advanced life-support therapies such as invasive hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical circulatory support (Impella & Intra Aortic Balloon Pump), CRRT, temporary pacing, advanced airway management, and ECMO, while the CCU manages intermediate-level patients from the same population. Patients include those with acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, arrhythmias, cardiogenic shock, post–cardiac arrest, and those recovering from CABG, valve and structural heart procedures (TAVR), PCI, ablations, and pacemaker placement. Nurses are cross-trained in cardiac surgery and cardiac medicine care and supported by a structured professional development pathway that allows progression from intermediate to advanced open-heart and critical care roles. Care is delivered in all-private rooms with 4:1 CCU and 2:1 CVICU nurse-patient ratios, supported by an engaged charge nurse and a multidisciplinary team of physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, therapists, and specialized nursing roles, fostering collaboration, professional growth, and excellent patient outcomes. The Registered Nurse (RN) provides nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process and standards of practice for a professional nurse. The RN is expected to perform all staff nurse activities and function as charge nurse when assigned. The RN maintains overall accountability/responsibility for assigned patients, even though some activities/tasks may be delegated to Technical Nurses, Patient Care Associates, and/or Sitters. Assignments are performed appropriately to age and developmental level of patients being served. Department Overview Our Minneapolis critical care float team is an integral part of nursing services provided within our critical care community. Team members work within our pediatric intensive care unit and cardiovascular intensive care unit. Staff are able to expand their skills over time to provide support in other areas, including the emergency department and post-anesthesia care unit. Overview: JOB PURPOSE: Serves as a member of the critical care team by assisting in management of critically ill patients in the hospital. Applies specialized skills and knowledge related to ICU, CCU and CVICU settings in which they practice. Contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, consulting and provides leadership to the organization. Responsibilities: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provides direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients within institutional guidelines and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards under the supervision of the patient's physician. 2. Obtains patient health histories and completes physical examinations and documents findings in accordance with hospital requirements. 3. Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, explaining the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, patient's family, staff and healthcare learners. 4. Performs approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient's clinical status and documents procedures in accordance with hospital requirements, including obtaining arterial, venous, and capillary blood samples, urine samples, sputum samples and cultures; performing cardiac output measurements, other hemodynamic measurements and EKG's; assisting with the performance of radiographic studies; assisting physician with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; etc. 5.
