Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to): Deliver high-quality care to critically ill patients by performing detailed assessments, developing care plans, and implementing complex nursing interventions Use advanced equipment like cardiac monitors, pulse oximeters, blood pressure monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps, and capnography devices to continuously track vital signs and physiological parameters Safely administer medications, intravenous fluids, and blood products with precise dosing and timing, closely monitoring patient responses to ensure effectiveness and prevent adverse reactions Manage life-support devices such as ventilators, dialysis machines, and cardiac monitors Provide emotional support and education to patients' families, acting as a liaison to ensure they understand the care being provided Document all aspects of patient care to ensure continuity and compliance while rigorously maintaining infection control and safety protocols to protect vulnerable patients Qualifications Education, Work Experience & Qualifications: Current and valid state RN License. Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current. Completion of Critical Care Course preferred. Basic Arrhythmia Interpretation within 30 days of hire. Current ACLS certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current. Minimum of one year as a staff RN in acute care hospital, critical care preferred. Critical Care RN (CCRN) Certification preferred. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Overview The Trauma/Surgical ICU (TSICU) is a 28-bed critical care unit specializing in caring for traumatically injured patients or those undergoing complex surgeries requiring close monitoring and care. Patients are admitted directly from the ED, the Ross Trauma Admitting Area, or the operating room. Patients usually cared for in this area include those with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, rib fractures, and lung injuries, as well as diverse orthopedic injuries requiring frequent monitoring and care. Many patients cared for in the TSICU are poly-trauma patients, with injuries involving more than one body system. Common surgical patients include those undergoing Whipple procedures, esophagectomies, gastrostomies, and abdominal aortic aneurysms. The unit is staffed with registered nurses, critical care technicians, trauma surgery nurse practitioners, resident physicians, and attending trauma surgeons. Staff also work closely with respiratory therapists and specialized surgical groups such as orthopedics and neurosurgery. Nurses and critical care technicians working in this area receive education specific to the trauma patient's care. Experience Required A minimum of one year or more of RN acute care experience in an inpatient setting is preferred Education Requirements Graduate of NLN accredited School of Nursing.
