The clinical nurse performs in the professional role as described by the American Nurses Association (ANA); engaging in activities related to ethics, education, evidence-based practice and research, quality improvement, leadership, collaboration, professional practice evaluation , resources utilization, environmental health, and patient advocacy as appropriate to clinical nursing practice. Key duties include: Preparing patients for medical examination including taking medical history, performing health-screening tests, lab tests, giving injections and emergency procedures when necessary. Providing health education and health assessment for patients, per nursing protocols. Assisting with dispensing of medications, as needed. Triage medical problems over the phone and in person. Provide nursing consultation and serve as a resource for staff, students, and volunteers. Informally supervise medical assistants. Supervise volunteer student RN’s, CMA’s, medical students, and clinic assistants. Maintain nursing standards to meet licensing requirements.
