Thornton's 2 East is a 26-bed inpatient unit which specializes in ICU stepdown, medicine, cardiac, and heart failure specialties. The unit is unique and challenging, and nurses develop a wide variety of skills. Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge.
