For nurses joining the CDU, the journey begins with a warm welcome and a comprehensive orientation experience. Unit orientation is tailored to individual experience levels, spanning 4-8 weeks of in-depth, competency-based training. Job Description The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals. RN’s who were employed at TCH prior to January 2010, and have more than 20 years of experience as an RN are permitted to pursue their BSN on a voluntary basis. A MSN or DNP are not required but supersede the requirement for the BSN. The major specialties treated in this ICU are Trauma Surgery, Transplant Surgery, Acute Care Surgery, and Oncologic Surgery. As the region’s only adult Level 1 trauma center, the SICU is always ready to receive any critical trauma patient requiring resuscitation and specialized nursing care. We have a variety of solid organ transplant recipients, including liver, kidney-pancreas, and kidney transplants. As the region’s only adult Level 1 trauma center, the SICU is always ready to receive any critical trauma patient requiring resuscitation and specialized nursing care. We care for complex oncologic, hepatobiliary, and general surgery patients who are referred from across the country. The majority of our patient population is in critical condition, with most patients generally stabilizing within 24-48 hours following admission.
