Maintain knowledge of all routine testing processes and retrieve test results. Communicate normal lab results as appropriately delegated. The Medical Assistant with the required training, education and demonstration of clinical competency, performs delegated clinical and administrative duties under the supervision of a nurse or licensed physician. The unit is committed to a family-centered developmental care approach, ensuring that both the infants and their families receive the support they need during this critical time. The NICU provides highly technical care, including cardiac, respiratory, and hemodynamic monitoring, as well as ventilator support for neonates requiring specialized intervention. Staffing in the 9AB NICU is carefully structured to ensure optimal care for these vulnerable patients. Orientation for new staff in the NICU follows a Competency-Based Orientation (CBO) model, including an online didactic component. The orientation period ranges from 8 to 12 weeks, depending on the nurse's previous experience. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Observe and monitor patient conditions and perform OASIS to develop an individualized care plan and adjust as needs change. Evaluates the treatments and medical condition of the patient according to the plan of care. Determines if the level of care being provided meets the patients’ needs. Administer medication as prescribed by the physician and help decrease re-hospitalizations by prioritizing visits for high-risk patients. Oversee and supervise total care of patient provided by nurse aides and LPNs. Manage multi-disciplinary care as applicable while promoting continuity of care with appropriate admissions , transfers, and discharges. Educate the patient and family on the disease process using teach back methods to ensure patient and family understanding. Complete all clinical documentation following agency protocol and Medicare/Federal guidelines. Completion of SOC/ROC/Recert and subsequent documentation within 24 hours. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and physicians to ensure optimal care is provided. Complete chart reviews and answer patient calls, to support patient care and regulatory compliance. Understand and follow agency policies, procedures, rules, and regulations and communicate changes in schedule/availability to schedulers or supervisors. Attend in-service training and mandatory agency meetings. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum one-year experience as an RN in an acute care setting. Home care experience preferred. Ability to effectively communicate and create positive impressions with patients, families, physicians and co-workers. Ability to remain calm, have patience and be accommodating. Compassionate and caring while working with patients. Knowledgeable on nursing best practices. Ability to make appropriate nursing judgments. Ability to identify a situation and handle it with the best possible solution. Detail-oriented and observant. Ability to work autonomously and have efficient time management.
