DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Endoscopy Technician: Sets up Endoscopy Room according to surgeon preference. Assists physician and RN with endoscopic procedures. 3Assists with specimens according to policy. Applies the principles of aseptic technique and prescribed procedure room procedures to competently perform endoscopy technician functions. Performs required maintenance of instruments, supplies and equipment by adhering to cleaning, care, utilizations and sterilization procedures as directed. Notifies supervisor of any malfunction of equipment. Uses and maintains DSD according to manufacturer recommendations. Ensures a clean and tidy work area throughout the scope process. Restocks endoscopy room with designated supplies. The Pre-op Ward Clerk / Unit Secretary: Answers phones, transfers calls, handles requests and takes messages. Makes phone calls to patients when arrival times are changed. Will keep Charge nurse updated with calls as needed. Handles Surgical Schedules: Prints copies of the surgery schedule Update schedules daily Is responsible for patient charts for final review by Charge Nurse: Inserts paperwork, lab reports, EKG’s, history & physicals, and physician orders. The CNA assigned to PACU I: Assists in admitting patients to the PACU I area. Attaches monitors and SCDs. Empties and records foleys and drains. Applies warm blankets and ice packs to patients. The CNA assigned to PACU II: Assists patients to the bathroom and helps patients in getting dressed. Transports patients to their car. The CNA’s Ward Clerk Duties: Performs a chart audit for all patient charges. Maintains PACU forms, files and supplies. Fax physician orders. Call in doctor appointments for patients. When requested by a Surgeon, will utilize appropriate techniques, as instructed by the requesting Surgeon, to assist with manipulation or reinsertion of Laparoscopic trocars, and suturing/stapling of skin under the indirect observation of the surgeon. Training will be by the surgeon with acknowledgement of ability by the Surgeon. In order for a Certified Surgical Technician III to perform these procedures, he/she is required to have a surgeon sign an acknowledgement of ability form. The scrub technician can only perform these procedures under the indirect observation the operating surgeon. Will close skin with method indicated by surgeon (suture, staples, etc.) with dressing of incision appropriate to Surgeons guidelines. Facial skin suturing will not be allowed. May manipulate and reinsert Laparoscopic trocars. The initial insertion must be done by the surgeon. May staple, as directed by the surgeon, after the surgeon has approximated the tissue.
