Unit Description: The Emergency Department (ED) at Pennsylvania Hospital, located in the historic district of downtown Philadelphia, is a 29 bed unit that sees over 50,000 visits annually. Although not a Level One Trauma Center, the ED treats a diverse patient population in virtually all specialties. The ED focuses on performance improvement and evidenced-based practice to provide the best possible care. The ED was awarded the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Lantern Award. This award is given to only one percent of emergency departments nationally and recognizes exceptional practice and innovative performance in the core areas of leadership, practice, education, advocacy, and research. The Pennsylvania Hospital Emergency Department is the first hospital in Philadelphia to earn such a prestigious designation. Overview Kelemen 10 is a medical-surgical unit that cares for patients who have various needs and disease processes. Both North and South 10 have Telemetry capabilities for our patients. Each side houses 36 patients to a maximum of 72 patients. South 10 has a 12-bed Intermediate Care Unit embedded within the 36-bed unit. INCU has critically care-trained RNs who support the patient's needs and care for ventilated patients. South 10 also has 2 negative pressure isolation rooms with an anti-room that is used when needed for specific isolation needs. We do multidisciplinary rounds Monday – Friday. This involves the patient in their care and allows the team members to collaborate with the patient to give them the best possible care and appropriate discharge to home or other facilities. We have a pharmacist who has an office on the unit to assist the RNs when needed to help avoid delay of care to any patient. Education Requirements Graduate of NLN accredited School of Nursing. License/Certification Requirements Current NJ-RN License (Registered Nurse).
