Position Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Associate) to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will: Provide expert clinical care to critically ill pediatric cardiac patients, including pre- and post-operative management, hemodynamic stabilization, and complex respiratory support. Perform advanced procedures, including but not limited to, arterial and central line placement, endotracheal intubation, and chest tube insertion. Collaborate closely with attending physicians, surgeons, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans. Lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives and research projects. Educate patients, families, and other healthcare professionals on complex cardiac conditions and treatment strategies. Provide coverage for day, night, and weekend shifts, contributing to a 24/7, high-acuity environment. A service week model to mirror the Attending MD schedule is challenging, but enhances continuity of care for the patients and their families. A self-scheduling model provides customized time off to help with work life balance. Demonstrate exceptional critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. Required Qualifications: *Master's degree or higher from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Associate program. * Current national certification as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP-AC) or Physician Assistant (PA-C). * Ideally 1-2 years of experience working in a Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit or a comparable high-acuity setting. * Advanced knowledge of pediatric cardiology, critical care medicine, and hemodynamic monitoring. * Proficiency in performing advanced procedures. * Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. * Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development. * BLS and PALS certification required. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with ECMO management. * Experience with ventricular assist devices (VADs). * Participation in research and quality improvement initiatives. * Fellowship training in pediatric critical care or pediatric cardiology. Department Overview The pediatric emergency department at Children’s Minnesota Minneapolis campus is the only freestanding pediatric Level I trauma center in the area. Our interdisciplinary team of dedicated professionals cares for a wide-range of pediatric trauma and injuries, such as chest, bone, spinal cord, head and neck and abdominal injuries. We care for over 48,000 patients annually and treat almost 40 percent of all pediatric trauma in the Twin Cities. Department Overview Our care traffic control center (CTCC) is at the heart of the Children’s Minnesota organization overseeing the operations of each hospital dispersed between three campuses. Our staff includes dedicated hospital nursing supervisors and staffing office personnel who work closely together as we continuously monitor each hospital’s unit activity and staffing needs while maintaining the organizational core value of putting “kids first.” The CTCC department provides a distinctive opportunity for team members to lead through collaboration with each unit in prioritizing patient flow, triaging operational issues or clinical staffing areas of concern, and organizing overall daily staffing resources within one of the largest pediatric health systems in the United States. Position Summary The Hospital Nursing Supervisor (HNS) directs, organizes, plans and coordinates overall activities of the hospital involving a high degree of judgment, initiative, and leadership including the ability to anticipate and positively react to technical, organizational, and administrative issues during their assigned shifts. The HNS provides leadership, coordination and management of personnel, and assumes responsibility for hospital administrative functions Monday through Friday when management/administration is not in-house and 24 hours on weekends and holidays. The HNS maintains efficient utilization of nursing resources, working collaboratively with unit leadership, the resource management coordinators (RMCs), and charge nurses. The HNS plays a critical role in patient placement, the admission status process, and the facilitation of direct admissions during routine and surge situations. This individual is visible and available to clinical areas within all areas providing patient care to facilitate patient placement, collaboration with and among charge nurses, and evaluate current and potential staffing concerns. The HNS interprets administrative/departmental policy and procedures for all personnel and acts as an administrative liaison, clinical resource, and role model for staff. They are responsible for triaging operational issues or clinical areas of concern and alerting the Administrator On-Call (AOC), Patient Care Director On-Call (DOC), or Patient Care Manager On-Call (PCM-OC) when needed. The HNS assists in the resolution of issues relating to physicians, patients, families and staff and performs investigations pertaining to incidents/occurrences during their shift as well as reporting to the on call leadership team. License/Certification/Registration: * Registered Nurse in MN required * BLS required Education: * Bachelor's degree preferred * CPI or Behavioral Health Care & Personal Safety Course within 6 months of hire Experience: * 3 to 5 years hospital-based nursing experience. * Nursing leadership experience in a hospital setting. Could include performance in managerial or supervisory roles as well as charge nurse, educator, and resource nurse roles. * Utilization of electronic health record systems (e.g., Cerner). Experience with electronic bedboard and surgery scheduling a plus. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: * Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication. * Critical thinking, analytical, and organization/time management skills. * Demonstrated ability to lead and influence others. * Resourceful: recognizes problems and identifies potential solutions by tapping into available resources, staff, and best practices. * Creates trusting relationships and builds community. * Able to make decisions and direct others in a dynamic environment. * Works effectively in an environment with frequent interruptions. This includes developing (as needed) and maintaining clinical expertise in the placement of PICC lines, teaching and mentoring RN's on the floors about basic IV care such as the use of safety catheters, being a clinical expert resource for the organization in vascular access issues and working closely with the staff to improve organizational access, flow and customer experience and assisting in the development of this new program. * Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. * Current MN nursing license. * BLS certification. * Current 2-3 years of pediatric nursing experience. * Current 2 years expertise in vascular access with children. * Competent in assessment and treatment of VAD sites for all complications. * Proficiency in ultrasound guided PIV placement, 1 year experience required. * Peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) placement experience in children required * VA-BC certification preferred. * An informational meeting with the Patient Care Manager is required prior to awarding the position.
