This is a Per Diem 7:00 am to 7:00 pm shift opportunity. As a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department, you will be responsible for treating patients with any medical problems that cannot wait to be seen by their regular doctor, as well as severe and life-threatening illnesses and injuries. Registered Nurses are responsible for establishing a therapeutic relationship and an individualized plan of care with the patient for a defined period of time (length of stay on that unit) and for communicating that plan of care to his/her collaborative partners. Registered Nurses are accountable for planning, delivering, coordinating, evaluating, and modifying the patient’s care for that defined period of time and for effectively transitioning that plan of care with attention to continuity across shift and settings of care. Emergency nurses provide a multitude of care; ranging from foley insertions, assistance with chest tube and central line insertions, cardiac arrests, blood transfusions, medication administration, splinting of orthopedic problems, laceration repair, prep for the operating room, STEMI (MI) care, therapeutic hypothermia, and intravenous insertion; to name a few. Patients that are admitted to the Pediatric Unit will include those aged two (2) days to eighteen (18) years. We care for patients with a wide range of complexities which include High Flow Nasal Cannula, any patient that needs higher acuity medical attention will be transferred to another facility. In the case of a medical/surgical patient surge, adult patients may be admitted to the Pediatric Unit that have medical and surgical diagnoses requiring a mild level of care, with the expectation of a brief and uncomplicated hospitalization. Scheduling Requirements (Tier 3): Work a minimum of seven shifts per six-week schedule. Two of these shifts must be fulfilled on the weekend. Work two holidays per calendar year. Per Diem RNs will be paid at 1.5 times the rate for all hours worked on these holidays . Based on your hired shift, work at least two ‘difficult to staff’ days per calendar year (Easter, Mother’s Day, Halloween, ‘Black Friday’, Good Friday, Christmas Eve, Valentine’s Day or New Year’s Eve) Follow departmental call-out policy Make-up absences within the same schedule period. Patients with serious but less critical injuries can be admitted to the TSDU directly from the ED or the Ross Trauma Admitting Area. Patients usually cared for in this area include those with trauma tic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, rib fractures and lung injuries, as well as diverse orthopedic injuries requiring frequent monitoring and care. Patients may also be transferred to the TSDU from the Trauma /Surgical ICU when their clinical condition has improved but close monitoring or ventilator support is still required . The unit is staffed with registered nurses, critical care technicians, trauma surgery nurse practitioners and resident physicians. Staff also work closely with respiratory therapy and specialized surgical groups such as orthopedics and neurosurgery. Nurses and critical care technicians working in this area receive education specific to the care of the trauma patient. Experience Required A minimum of one year or more of RN acute care experience in an inpatient setting is preferred Education Requirements Graduate of NLN accredited School of Nursing. License/Certification Requirements Current NJ-RN License (Registered Nurse). Current NJ-BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) Certain specialties may require advanced certification (i.e., ACLS, NALS, PALS).

The Registered Nurse assesses the patient utilizing the nursing process to formulate an individualized plan of care for each patient, implements interventions, and evaluates outcomes consistent with policy and appropriate to the current client’s condition, which promote, maintain, and restore physical and mental health, and prevent illness. The Registered Nurse interprets age/disability specific information in response to client population served. The Registered Nurse provides for the safe delivery of medication in accordance with the policies and procedures, physicians orders and/or current practice. Essential Functions: Utilizes the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation and formulating nursing interventions directed towards development of an individualized plan of care and treatment modalities. Identifies risk levels, precautions, and expected outcomes individualized to the client to include discharge planning; prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes; evaluates the effectiveness of interventions in relation to expected outcomes; conducts ongoing assessment of clients from admission to discharge; initiates medical/psychiatric crisis intervention to stabilize and ensure the well-being of the patient's conditions. Demonstrates knowledge of psychiatric disorders and appropriate nursing interventions; implements nursing interventions identified in the plan of care that is individualized to the patient needs. Applies appropriate interventions to progress the patient towards wellness and addresses maintenance of wellness. Administers medications as prescribed safely; provides education on prescribed medications; recognizes signs and symptoms of adverse drug reactions. Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and responsibility for decision making, quality nursing care, and knowledge base of psychiatric nursing care. Reviews, revises, and updates medical records within facility guidelines and timeframes. Transcribes and implements physician's orders according to facility policy; documents care, progress, response to intervention in medical record in an accurate, thorough and concise manner. Follows up on client care responsibilities, communicates incomplete assignments, and current client needs to staff to assure continuity of care. Implements staff assignments and delegation of duties using appropriate judgment and knowledge; Demonstrates positive willingness to assist staff and patients; functions as an advocate for patient needs/safety Utilizes nursing knowledge to successfully meet the needs of the facility, patient population, and staff members utilizes nursing resources to enhance evidence-based practice Float among various clinical services, where qualified and competent and performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications Education and Work Experience Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN); preferred. Active state Registered Nursing (RN) License; required. Current BCLS (AHA), ACLS certificate upon hire and maintain current; required.
