Short Description The Registered RN is a professional care-giver who, as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team, assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame and who supervises and provides care to these patients utilizing the nursing process including the therapeutic use of self. Follows established policies and procedures Communicates openly with internal customers and supervisors Provides excellent customer service interfacing well with all levels of staff, management and physicians Applies Cooper core values Other duties as required Overview The Surgical Care Unit (SCU) , Short Procedure Unit (SPU), Same Day Surgery (SDS) and Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) are in Camden at the hospital on the second, third and fifth floors. First Pre-Admission Testing, located in 3 Cooper calls to review a patient’s health information prior to a surgical procedure. Once approval for the recommended surgical procedure is finalized and patient information is reviewed the patient is provided with information on when and where to report. Once arrived and registered the patient is escorted to the appropriate location to be prepped for surgical procedure. These RN’s prep the patient for the procedure. They review medical history, medical procedures and place an IV. Patients are met by Anesthesia and their Surgeon. Once everything is reviewed and verified the patient then goes to the OR. PACU is located on the third floor of the Pavilion and Kelemen building. There is also an area on Pavilion 2. Patients here can often be sent home following the procedure or are admitted to the hospital. This is based upon the procedure performed and the necessary recovery needed. If admitted the patient is transferred to the appropriate floor for continued recovery and discharge. The PACU sees infants to geriatrics. Here the patients are closely monitor while they are waking up from the anesthesia they received during the procedure. Depending on the procedure and the orders received from the physicians the patient will be discharged home or admitted to the hospital. Overview Kelemen 10 is a medical-surgical unit that cares for patients who have various needs and disease processes. Both North and South 10 have Telemetry capabilities for our patients. Each side houses 36 patients to a maximum of 72 patients. South 10 has a 12-bed Intermediate Care Unit embedded within the 36-bed unit. INCU has critically care-trained RNs who support the patient's needs and care for ventilated patients. South 10 also has 2 negative pressure isolation rooms with an anti-room that is used when needed for specific isolation needs. We do multidisciplinary rounds Monday – Friday. This involves the patient in their care and allows the team members to collaborate with the patient to give them the best possible care and appropriate discharge to home or other facilities. We have a pharmacist who has an office on the unit to assist the RNs when needed to help avoid delay of care to any patient. Education Requirements Graduate of NLN accredited School of Nursing. First Pre-Admission Testing, located in 3 Cooper calls to review a patient’s health information prior to a surgical procedure. Once approval for the recommended surgical procedure is finalized and patient information is reviewed the patient is provided with information on when and where to report. Once arrived and registered the patient is escorted to the appropriate location to be prepped for surgical procedure. These RN’s prep the patient for the procedure. They review medical history, medical procedures and place an IV. Patients are met by Anesthesia and their Surgeon. Once everything is reviewed and verified the patient then goes to the OR. Job Description The PICU is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team in Wilmington, DE. This is a 36hrs/wk, rotating shift position. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Nemours Children's Health, Delaware is a 24-bed unit in a Level 1 Trauma Center. Patients requiring care and surveillance in the PICU will have conditions and diagnoses which may include, but are not limited to, those producing: acute and reversible loss of consciousness, respiratory failure, compromised air exchange, cardiovascular dysfunction, hepatic failure, hemodynamic instability, renal dysfunction, central nervous system injury or dysfunction, acute trauma and organ failure requiring transplantation. Treatments or interventions performed in the PICU include measures utilizing advanced life support technology. These include, but are not limited to cardiopulmonary resuscitation, tracheal intubation, ECMO, pharmacologic support of circulation, mechanical ventilation, point of care monitoring, CRRT, thoracentesis, and hemodynamic, intracranial pressure, intravascular monitoring. Each patient room has electrocardiographic, pulse oximetry, respiratory, hemodynamic and intracranial pressure monitoring capability, as well as central EKG and respiratory monitoring. Portable monitoring during patient transport is provided. Special equipment includes radiant warmer beds, heating/cooling blanket systems, Mapleson manual ventilation system, end tidal CO2 monitors, ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring systems, intracranial pressure monitoring system, ventriculostomy systems, infusion pumps, blood warmer, continuous renal replacement systems, and peripheral nerve stimulators. Requirements Be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Experienced pediatric intensive care nurse of at least 2 years preferred. Current Delaware or Multistate Compact License Must be CPR certified by the American Heart Association. PALS and ACLS preferred. Major Duties and Responsibilities Directs the daily activities of the licensed practical/vocational nurse and certified nursing assistants in accordance with current federal, state and local regulations and guidelines and established facility policies and procedures. Follows the nursing model to promote holistic care for the residents. Ensures that policies and procedures are complied with by nursing personnel assigned. Participates in the admission, discharge and transfers of residents as required. Assesses for changes in residents’ status, notifying the physician and resident’s family or representative and documenting accordingly. Transcribes physician orders to medical record and carries out orders as written. Prepares and administers medications as per physicians’ orders and observes for adverse effects as indicated. Performs wound treatments as per physicians’ orders, observes for changes and documents accordingly as indicated. Schedules follow up appointments for residents and transportation needs as indicated. Provides nursing leadership to nursing personnel assigned to the unit. Provides direct care skills such as colostomy changes, tube feedings, wound care, suctioning, IV administration, etc. in accordance with current policies and procedures, as assigned. Performs rounds to ensure resident needs are being met and personnel are performing their assigned duties. Collaborates with other members of the interdisciplinary team as needed to ensure residents’ needs are holistically met. Participates in management team meetings as indicated to discuss census changes, resident changes in status or care need, or complaints or concerns. May assist in evaluating work performance of nursing personnel and implements discipline according to operational policies and as directed. Informs appropriate departments of concerns or complaints and files grievances as necessary. Reports any incidents or unusual occurrences to the unit manager, assistant director or nursing or director of nursing and participates in the investigative process as needed. Participates in end of life care as required. Ensures that there is adequate stock of medications, supplies, equipment and notifies appropriate personnel of needs. Initiates, reviews and updates care plans as required. Promotes teamwork, mutual respect, and effective communication. Participates in the survey process when inspection surveys arise. May participate in QAPI activities as needed or assigned. Ensures that infection control principles are followed and helps correct deficiencies in practice as noted.
