The PLC-RN operates with a high level of autonomy, making independent decisions in complex clinical scenarios to optimize patient outcomes and resource utilization. They perform detailed triage assessments to evaluate patient acuity and prioritize admissions based on urgency and available resources, ensuring that patients are placed in the most suitable care setting. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the PLC-RN serves as a central coordinator, facilitating communication and collaboration among referring facilities, physicians, nursing staff, and various hospital departments. They work closely with hospital leadership and transfer center teams to streamline patient transitions, reduce delays, and maintain continuity of care. The PLC-RN also monitors and identifies systemic barriers to patient throughput, analyzes trends, and reports findings to leadership to support strategic improvements in hospital operations.
