Planning: Plan patient care, utilizing assessment information. 1)Writes and reviews patient education materials and makes modification in collaboration with Supervisor and Medical Director of Radiation Oncology. 2)Reviews and generates nursing policy and procedures in Radiation Oncology. 3)Collaborates with members of the health care team (Radiation Oncology, Medical Physics, all physicians and Hematology Oncology) in planning and initiating referrals to hospital/community resources. 4)Coordinates with pharmaceutical and nutritional support representatives in evaluating products for Radiation Oncology use. 5)Coordinates scheduling of inpatient consults. Implementation: Implements nursing care in accordance with plan of care, demonstrating skills of appropriate clinical level. 1)Assists Radiation Oncologist with various medical procedures. 2)Functions as role model when giving direct patient care. 3)Intervenes directly and constructively with peer care providers when patient care quality or safety are at risk. 4)Demonstrates leadership skills and follow through in working with Radiation Therapists and ancillary staff. 5)Functions as a nursing resource in Radiation Oncology for technical staff, clerical staff and community. 6)Ensures safe environment and infection control practices among health care team members. 7)Provides and/or coordinates annual inservices on safe environment and infection control practices for the Radiation Oncology staff. 8)Provides accurate documentation to create a permanent record that is consistent with established policy and procedure. Evaluation: Participates in evaluation of effectiveness of nursing interventions, modifies and updates plan of care as required. 1)Evaluate tools used to document patient needs to meet quality assurance criteria. 2)Collaborates with other health team members in weekly chart rounds of patients undergoing radiation therapy. 3)Evaluates patient needs according to type of treatment received: External Radiation Therapy, High-Dose Rate Brachytherapy, Low-Dose Rate Brachytherapy, Prostate Implanting or Stereotactic Radiosurgery. Licensure: Nurse, Registered (RN) Education/Experience Required: Graduate from an accredited degree program in nursing (AD or BSN) 4 years clinical experience.
