Primarily a medical cardiology unit, we care for patients before durable VAD implantation, before organ transplant, and during any recurrent admissions, separate from the postoperative care area for invasive cardiothoracic/vascular surgery. Additionally, we provide care for patients undergoing pre- and post-cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology studies, and other minimally invasive cardiac procedures. Other duties as required Overview Kelemen 8 is a medical-surgical unit that cares for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses, illnesses and disease processes. North and South 8 have telemetry capabilities for our patients. Kelemen 8 has frequent admissions and discharges. Kelemen 8 can accept a total of 77 patients. The North side houses 37 patients, and the South side houses 36 patients. There are two negative pressure rooms with an anti-room. There is a pharmacist present on the unit to assist the RNs with medication questions/concerns. Multidisciplinary rounds occur every Monday through Friday. Rounds involve all aspects of the healthcare team, including the patient and family. Assesses, implements, and evaluates care needed by assigned patients under the direction of the licensed physician. The RN is knowledgeable about principles, theories, current methods and techniques of nursing practice. Using the nursing process, the RN collaborates with the patient, patient's family member(s)/significant others, professional peers and other members of the health care team to individualize patient care. Directs nursing support staff in the provision of patient care according to the standards of nursing practice, administrative and departmental policies and procedures. Professional education, training or additional certifications may be required by specialty area.
