OB/Labor and Delivery Technician - LPN (Nights)

Under the guidance and direction of a Registered Nurse, the OB technician is responsible for assisting in the nursing care and surgical services in the maternity services area including the provision of patient care necessary for comfort, hygiene, data collection, and documentation. Activities are based on accepted standards of operating room and obstetrical practice and are performed within the scope of education, training, and experience. The OB Technician is responsible to maintain current knowledge of trends in the operating room, including new products, procedures, and physicians' techniques. Performs indirect and direct patient care of the neonate, and female patients under the direct supervision of a RN. Provides patient care support, maintenance of nursing unit, housekeeping and dietary tasks, and clerical support for the nursing unit. Applies and shares knowledge with others. Candidates must possess the ability to prioritize and have excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in stressful situations. Principal Accountabilities: Evaluate fetal heart tones, contractions, and vital signs, informing the doctor of progress and/or concerns as necessary to coordinate care and facilitate a delivery free of complications. Maintain knowledge and clinical skills to access women and newborns with complications and provide care unit stabilization and transport can be accomplished safely. Provide breastfeeding moms with current information and continuing support to achieve their breastfeeding goals for their newborn’s health & nutrition.
