Job duties include, but are not limited to: Ensure that required staffing levels are met for each shift on a daily basis needed to render care for the number of residents assigned to her/his responsibility. Make sure that staffing level adjustments are made each shift as needed and the Federal required posted schedule is adjusted to reflect current actual staffing. Identify educational needs of staff discuss findings with the Facility Educator and work collaboratively to meet these needs. Participate on other committees as requested by the Administrator/Director of Nursing Services. Ensure that resident care and documentation is in compliance with state and federal rules and regulations. Comply with and ensure that staff is in compliance with HIPAA rules and regulations, reporting any known violations to the Administrator and Director of Nursing Services. Ensure work assignments are made for assigned staff, including breaks and lunches and staff is compliant with assignments. Initiate disciplinary action as necessary for staff members in collaboration with DON/ADON. Communicate with the appropriate department manager/DON and participate with follow up and resolution to any grievances/concerns from personnel, residents or family members. Ensure physician orders are being followed. Assist the DON/ADON with preparing performance evaluations as directed. Greet new admissions and families and assist nursing staff with admission process as needed. Within 24 to 48 hours, ensure that all admission documentation is complete including all required clinical assessments and care plans. Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure that medications are being administered as ordered and that treatments are provided as scheduled. Provide direct nursing care as necessary. Report problem areas to the Director of Nursing. Assist in developing and implementing corrective action. Attend and participate in continuing education programs to remain current with standards of nursing practice and to maintain licensure requirements. Ensure that your nursing staff follows policy and procedures, including appropriate dress code. Ensure that nursing staff participate in all fire safety and disaster preparedness drills. Ensure that nursing personnel are follow established infection control procedures when isolation precautions become necessary. Ensure that all personnel operate nursing equipment in a safe manner. NURSING SUPERVISOR (Ambulatory Care Services: Medical Specialties)

Job Summary To participate as an active member of the triad leadership team with the admin/physician partners in the applicable ACUs providing daily assessment of nursing work, facilitating continuous improvement of health care services and transition care towards the mission/goals of University of Michigan Health, Michigan Medicine. To assist the Senior Nursing Director in planning and management of the patient care services. To provide professional nursing leadership and administrative direction for nursing practice for Registered Nurses, and, as indicated for Licensed Practical Nurses and assistive personnel. Responsibilities* Personnel Management Provides supervision, counsel, performance management, and completes performance evaluation for nursing with feedback from the senior nursing director, medical faculty, peer groups, and ACU triad. Creates job postings, recruits, interviews and selects nurses. Works collaboratively with triad leadership team in the hiring process. Manages the process for staffing/scheduling and vacation time of nursing staff. Manages the orientation and competency evaluation of new hires. Connects individually with each employee, increasing employee engagement scores and satisfaction. Clinical Practice Serves as a role model, mentor and expert resource to nursing and assistive staff in the provision of direct patient care. Provides leadership for the development, implementation and evaluation of standards of nursing practice and interdisciplinary clinical guidelines. Facilitates and support a nursing practice environment in which empowerment, responsibility, autonomy, accountability, collaboration and peer review are exercised. Develops standard process and protocols to minimize variation, support efficient workflows, and confirm the right work is performed by the right role. Support of Clinical Operations Participates in planning and problem-solving of daily unit operations and priorities of patient services. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of unit goals and objectives. Manages, directly and in collaboration with others, staffing, scheduling, benchmarking, work redesign and variances. Organizes and facilitates unit based educational activities and in-services. Assures compliance with regulatory programs' standards related to the nursing. Provides leadership, assists and advises Administrators, Medical Directors, in satisfying other regulatory standards. Interprets and implements University and Health System policies and procedures. Assists in the planning and implementation of new or expanded services and programs. Provides interface and liaison communications regarding programs external to the unit which have implications for nursing staff. Represents nursing, Ambulatory Care Services and/or the clinical department(s) or unit(s) on assigned committees Quality Management and Research Participates in and conducts the analysis of data, assists in the development of strategies to improve care management within the area or unit. Participates in and supports the involvement of nursing staff in patient (HEDIS, paid for performance) and ACU quality improvement metrics/activities. Provides leadership to staff in understanding and applying quality improvement principles and adoption of evidence-based changes in practice into daily work. Promotes the integration of research findings into clinical practice. Supports research activities on the unit, as indicated. Works closely with each team to define and measure productivity, holding teams accountable to expectations, and ensuring work performed is within their scope of practice. Professional Development and Education Facilitates the education of health sciences students. Develops self professionally through continuing education, professional reading, participation in professional organizations and networking. Evaluates own performance periodically with the Senior Nursing Director. Required Qualifications* Applicant Must Meet One Of The Following Bachelors of Science in Nursing OR Associates degree or diploma in Nursing and a Masters degree in Nursing. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan. Minimum of five (5) years RN experience Minimum of two (2) years of recent (within the last 5 years) of reasonable progressively responsible clinical experience in an adult specialties service line. Minimum of one (1) year ambulatory experience in the last 5 years strongly desired. Demonstrated leadership skills including creative and effective problem-solving, ability to effectively collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, and ability to direct nursing practice and apply critical thinking skills/judgment to a variety of situations. Nurse Leadership certification or completion of a nursing leadership certification within two (2) years of accepting this position. Certification is expected to be maintained while in this leadership role. Examples include Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML) or, Nurse Executive (NE-BC). Desired Qualifications* Minimum of two (2) years of recent (within the last 5 years) clinical experience in medical specialties. 2 years or greater experience in ambulatory care. Previous supervisory/management experience 2 years or greater experience in a nursing leadership role. Experience in managing budgets, aligning resources Experience with tele-phone triage Master's in Nursing preferred Certification in specialty or ambulatory care. 2 years recent full-time experience (within the last 5 years) in a leadership title/role. Evidence of demonstrated or potential leadership ability, including charge nurse, team leader or other leadership experience. Active participant in professional organizations Experience with Epic or MiChart Previous experience in the application of evidenced-based medicine in a clinical patient care environment is desired.
