Job Responsibilities The Nursing Assistant is responsible for assisting the professional nurse/caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and the reordering and stocking of supplies. The Nursing Assistant may be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager/charge nurse. Provides basic patient care by performing routine duties to include: Personal grooming, bathing, toileting, Feeding, Skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments/creams, Oral hygiene, Specimen collection/testing, Position/ambulating, Changing linens, Promptly answers call lights. Assists the nurse in monitoring patient condition. Accurately takes and records weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation. Places patient on/off monitors or equipment. Reports unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner. Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients. Orients patient and their family to the environment. Assures the patient’s belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer and discharge. Transports patients, equipment, specimen and supplies. Assures patients get to appointments on time. Uses transfer belt when assisting patients with transfers and/or ambulation. Cleans sets up, and maintains rooms and equipment. Orders and stocks supplies. Accurately documents tasks performed on appropriate form. Performs other tasks as needed. Required Qualifications License/Certification/Registration Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program. AND ONE or more of the following: Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program. Or Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. POSITION SUMMARY DEFINITION Under supervision, to perform professional nursing duties in the care and services to patients and their families in an acute care and non-acute care facility; to assist physicians and carry out their orders; and to do other work as required. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS This is a single position class in which the incumbent’s responsibility of functioning must be based on the advance knowledge and skills in providing care and service to patients with more complex problems and needs (depending on training and experience). Incumbents are assigned to work or float in appropriate areas. Responsibilities are expanded to include participation in activities relating to quality assurance, policy and procedure review/revision, in-service education and staff development. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education Possession of Associate Degree in Nursing or successful completion of an accredited Registered Nurse Program as evidence by licensure, from a recognized college or university. Experience Six months within the past two years in gen acute care facility; or acquired appropriate equivalent competency. Experience in a Skilled Nursing Facility preferred.
