Job Summary UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Cardiac Surgery team in a dedicated nocturnal inpatient role. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will serve as a key clinical provider caring for high-acuity cardiac surgery patients throughout the continuum of hospitalization. Working collaboratively with cardiac surgeons, physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary care teams, the APP will provide comprehensive inpatient management including consultations, admissions, discharges, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, developing treatment plans, coordinating care, and providing patient and family education. The APP will follow patients before and after cardiac surgical procedures, manage complex clinical issues, interpret laboratory results, chest X-rays, and EKGs, facilitate specialty consultations, and perform independent clinical decision-making in a fast-paced environment. Master’s Degree: Nursing Minimum of 2–3 years of advanced practice experience in an acute care, hospitalist, trauma, emergency medicine, critical care, or surgical or surgery clinic setting or management of acute and complex medical conditions. 3-5 Plus years of experience as an NP IN Acute Care Surgery, Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, Hospital Medicine, or Emergency Medicine or managing a broad range of acute and Chronic Medical conditions will be considered. Previous experience rounding on inpatient surgical patients and participating in surgical consult services, or managing postoperative patients, surgical complications, wound care, or care transitions Prior RN experience in Acute Care Surgery, Trauma Surgery, General Surgery, Surgical Clinic, or Hospital Surgical Services a plus. Essential Job Functions • Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission and philosophy of Billings Clinic and department/service. • Examines patients and performs comprehensive physical examination, compiles patient medical data including health history and results of physical examination. • Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, laboratory, and other ancillary services as appropriate and differentiates between normal and abnormal information contained in the test results.
