Overview JOB SPECIFICS The Neonatal Critical Care Unit (NCCU) is a 64-bed, private-room unit with a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a Neonatal Intermediate Care Unit, and a Small Baby Unit. Team consists of our full-time neonatologists, nurse practitioners, residents, APP and physician fellows, nurses, respiratory therapists, and consultants from multiple specialties deliver the most advanced care to premature and high-risk infants. Rounding approach is family centered. Isolation facilities available. Management of premature and high-risk infants including bedside invasive and non-invasive monitoring, conventional and high-frequency ventilation, and surgery in multiple specialties, including cardiac and neurology. Opportunity to perform procedures such as intubation, thoracentesis, PICC, arterial and umbilical lines as well as newborn resuscitation for all high-risk deliveries. Additional opportunities to assist with transport of critical infants and to rotate to Level II nurseries in the OSF HealthCare System. Shared governance opportunities available within the scope of Safety, Quality Improvement, Education, and Focused Unit Based and Hospital Wide Committees. Overview JOB SPECIFICS In accordance with professional standards of care and adhering to the corporate philosophy of OSF Medical Group (OSFMG), the Advanced Practice Nurse/Physician Assistant is responsible for providing direct patient care in both ambulatory and procedural settings, including assessment, diagnosis, development of treatment plans, and ongoing management of acute and chronic ENT conditions. The APP will perform specialty‑specific procedures within scope, coordinate care across services, and contribute to patient education, clinical workflows, and quality initiatives. Conduct comprehensive ENT evaluations including history, physical examination, diagnostic interpretation, and formulation of evidence‑based treatment plans. Manage acute and chronic otolaryngologic conditions such as sinus disease, allergic rhinitis, otitis, hearing loss, thyroid disorders, voice/swallowing concerns, and head & neck masses. Perform and assist with ENT procedures appropriate to training and credentialing (e.g., flexible laryngoscopy, cerumen removal, nasal endoscopy, biopsy, wound care, postoperative management). Provide pre‑ and post‑operative care, including surgical counseling, follow‑up visits, medication management, and coordination of testing or referrals. Collaborate closely with ENT surgeons, audiology, speech‑language pathology, allergy services, and primary care to ensure seamless patient care transitions. Deliver patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment options, self‑management strategies, and preventive care. Support clinic efficiency through independent patient visits, triage of urgent concerns, and optimization of care pathways. Five 8-hour day shifts per week, Monday – Friday. Description The APN/NP is a specialty health care provider who provides medical and nursing services to individuals and families. Provide first-line in-house coverage, escalating care to the supervising hospitalist as needed. Independently manage acutely ill patients using ACLS protocols and evidence-based care pathways, with supervising physician guidance. Lead and manage Code Blue and Rapid Response events in collaboration with, and with immediate access to, supervising physician for guidance and support Demonstrates clinical expertise in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of health problems. Develops medical treatment plans based on scientific evidence-based practice and evaluates outcomes. Mentors staff/students in aspects of advanced nursing practice and patient care Conducts comprehensive appraisals of patient health status by taking health histories and performing physical examinations. Initiate and participate in admission histories and physicals, medical consultations in related subspecialty, and discharge planning. Order diagnostic tests and procedures. Establish a diagnosis based on the history, physical examination and diagnostic test results. Formulates differential diagnosis. Evaluate results of diagnostic testing of laboratory tests, EKG’s imaging studies, and medical procedures. Make appropriate consultations and referrals. Develop a treatment plan based on diagnosis and evidence-based practice that is mutually acceptable by the patient and family. Determine the effectiveness of the treatment plan with documentation of patient care outcomes. Reassess and modify the treatment plan to achieve optimal health and medical goals for the patient. Teaches and counsels families in medical conditions, treatment plans, preventive care and anticipated outcomes. Documents in the medical record with SOAP charting all care provided or procedures performed by the APN/NP. Include differential diagnosis in the documentation.
