Establishes effective working relationships with members of the health care team, patients, and families. Demonstrates knowledge of and applies safety principles as identified by the practice. Performs efficiently in emergency situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events. Demonstrates knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management in all aspects of patient care and unit functioning. Demonstrates a service philosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and all members of the health care team. Demonstrates proficiency in the use of computers and telecommunication modalities to document, track and convey information. Job Summary : The Infectious Disease Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for delivering comprehensive, evidence-based care to patients with acute and chronic infectious diseases across inpatient and outpatient settings. The NP collaborates closely with infectious disease physicians, hospitalists, primary care providers, pharmacists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to evaluate, diagnose, treat, and monitor patients with complex conditions. Patient Satisfaction Prioritizes and revises patient care plan/education according to patient/significant others’ input, initial assessment/diagnosis/clinical response, diagnostic findings, and provides direct patient education, and provides assistance to patients when a referral to a specialty physician, health care provider or community resource is needed. Assesses cognitive and personal assets or limitations of patient/family. Provides appropriate patient education, counseling, and support. Represents the Hospital positively in provision of service to the community independently and at Hospital sponsored or community events. Patient Safety Accountable for assignment, organization, and delegated aspects of patient safety, adjusting patient safety efforts according to developmental stage. Assures that all aspects of care provided by self is accurate, current, and appropriate to growth and developmental stages (infancy through geriatrics as assigned), and agency policies and standards. Assesses and manages comprehensive care and, in conjunction with physician, nursing and other professional services, is responsible to evaluate and risk stratify both well and ill patients. Conducts comprehensive or episodic health assessment to include patient history, related current complaint including psychosocial, past medical/personal history, and provides care for clients appropriate to growth and development. Professional Growth Participates in the peer review process, education, competency testing and evaluation, skill development and provides input to evaluation, documenting performance of staff and students in the clinic and/or lab. Remains informed of current knowledge and trends through continuing education, takes a self-directed approach to obtain learning activities/skills to increase professional competence and practice related to primary area of clinical work and population age, maintains educational record, and presents such for annual review. Provides and accepts formal/informal evaluation feedback constructively to improve workplace issues and peer performance and offers suggestions/options for unresolved issues/problems. General Statement of Duties : All clinical care provided by the Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) will be within the scope of the duties assigned by the supervising OrthoIndy Physician. The supervising Physician must be either physically present or immediately available for consultation when services are proved by the Advanced Practice Provider, including care provided using protocols, guidelines, and/or standing order. When the supervising Physician is unavailable, they may designate another Physician who has agreed to temporarily be responsible for the supervision. Essential Duties: Helps plan and implement care of patients, including entering orders into the patient record that are verbal orders or part of standing orders or protocols approved by the supervising physician. Supports supervising physician with both outpatient clinics and surgery visits. Provides direct patient treatment, including but not limited to: performing as a First Surgical Assistant, assists with simple wound care and repair, joint injection and aspiration, administration of local anesthetic and digital blocks, joint and fracture reduction, and application of braces, splints, and other DME and soft goods. Orders radiologic and laboratory tests and studies as necessary to complete history and physical examinations. Assesses patients and assesses normal and abnormal findings obtained from history and physical examination as well as radiology and ancillary studies. Plans and implements care of patients, including; EMR documentation, ordering additional studies: communicates with supervising Physician and additional staff, and prescribing appropriate medications. Helps to counsel individuals and families about their health-related issues. Communicates individualized teaching plans to patients based on their needs. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals. JOB DUTIES: Provides excellent medical care with the ARS philosophy outlined by the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director. This includes the ability to establish rapport, systematically gather data, determine the readiness of an individual for treatment and change and apply accepted criteria for diagnosis of substance use disorders. Screen for co-occurring Primary Mental Health issues. Screen for Substance Use Disorders (SUD) including psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, and withdrawal symptoms. Must have knowledge of medications, assessment for medication complications, detoxification protocols and prescribing medications in general Screen for danger to self or others with an evidenced based assessment tool—the Columbia Suicide Screening Rating Scale (CSSRS) and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). Analyze and interpret data to determine treatment recommendations and priorities. Screen for nutrition deficiencies and make interventions or refer for a nutrition consultation as appropriate. Screen for pain and understands treatment strategies for pain including pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic approaches. Strategies should reflect an individualized approach based on the individual’s current presentation, medical judgment and the risks and benefits associated with strategies, including potential risk of dependency, addiction, and abuse. Must have a DEA to prescribe controlled medications and have had training on Buprenorphine Prescribing as outlined by the DEA in the state(s) working. DEA-authorized prescribers will be required to demonstrate that they have completed at least eight (8) hours of educational training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. Depending on the state practicing, may need a protocol agreement to be completed by the NP and Medical Director. Depending on the state, the DEA may not be able to be obtained until the protocol has been approved by the local nursing board. This is the only exception to not having a DEA at hire.
