In order for a Certified Surgical Technician III to perform these procedures, he/she is required to have a surgeon sign an acknowledgement of ability form. The scrub technician can only perform these procedures under the indirect observation the operating surgeon. b. Will close skin with method indicated by surgeon (suture, staples, etc.) with dressing of incision appropriate to Surgeons guidelines. c. Facial skin suturing will not be allowed. d. May manipulate and reinsert Laparoscopic trocars. The initial insertion must be done by the surgeon. e. May staple, as directed by the surgeon, after the surgeon has approximated the tissue. 11. Assists the circulator with responsibilities for intra-operative safety related to infection control, prevention of exposure to blood-borne pathogens, and handling hazardous material. 12. Prepares soiled instruments for cleaning. Assists as needed in the decontamination and reprocessing of instruments. 13. Works cooperatively with other staff in putting unused supplies and equipment away and restocking rooms. 14. Adheres to and practices Mountain View Hospital Compliance Program and participates in Performance Improvement activities. 15. Performs on-call duties for emergency surgeries during after-duty-hours and on weekends on a rotating basis. 16. Maintains professional competency through appropriate continuing education. 17. POSITION OVERVIEW: Responsible for maintaining the sterile field in the operating room, being constantly vigilant to see that proper aseptic techniques are utilized to prevent contamination and infection. Required to assist the surgical team as the sterile member who passes instruments, sutures, and sponges during complex vascular, cardiovascular, and cardiothoracic procedures. To include open heart procedures. Assists with prompt turnover of surgical cases, case setup and proper care of surgical instruments and equipment. Performs delegated patient care duties. Receives direction from: Operating Room RN, Providers, Anesthesia Providers, and Nursing Manager. Gives direction to: Instrument Processor. EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing or Surgical Tech program EXPERIENCE: 2-3 years as a CVOR Certified Surgical Tech, required 1-2 years of experience as a Certified Surgical Tech in other specialties (General, Ortho, Urology, ENT, GYN, etc.), preferred. LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS: Certification from an accredited Surgical Tech Program Current Montana Nursing License (LPN only) BLS or obtain within 6 months of hire KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Basic medical terminology and anatomy, asepsis, and sterile technique.
