HVPCU is an all RN staff and operates with a nurse patient ratio of 1:2-3, as well as a dedicated charge nurse free from a patient assignment. HVPCU is one of two inpatient units that care for advanced Heart Failure patients with Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs) and continuous inotrope support. With a mix of both medical and surgical service lines, the HVPCU nurse is well rounded in both types of nursing. Aside from vasopressors, the HVPCU manages and titrates multiple IV drips, and manages complex patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. This department is a 16-bed, fully telemetry-capable unit that is functional 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This department treats a wide variety of high acuity adult inpatient populations (at or above 18 years of age) with various types of medical conditions alongside a multidisciplinary team. You will have the ability to work with physicians who are constantly pushing the boundaries of possibility, conducting groundbreaking research, and providing lifesaving, personalized patient care. A staff nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) who manages patient-centered care that is outcome-directed. Patient-centered care principles and professional nursing practice standards provide the foundation for the nurse to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care provided. The staff nurse assumes the primary responsibility and accountability for all patient care personally provided and that provided by those directly under her/his supervision. Essential Job Functions: Utilizes appropriate assessment skills to determine patient needs. Develops a plan of care for those patients whose needs do not require the expertise of a Case Manager or collaborates with the Case Manager to develop a plan of care for specified patients.
