Maintains accurate I & O, cumulative totals; assists with shift duty assignments or serves as a staff nurse as needed; as charge nurse identifies, organizes and directs activities to utilize resources, personnel, and materials to meet the needs of the patient and nursing staff; communicates with the Nurse Manager and Nurse Administrator, on an ongoing basis, regarding changes in unit status, patient related issues, staffing issues, Quality Management issues and other events as they evolve; acts as first line in problem resolution with other departments and any patient complaints; assists with shift duty assignments or serves a staff nurse as needed; verifies that emergency equipment is functional; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required. responds to unit pages; maintains accurate and complete medical records by: making sure assessments complete within unit timeframe, daily shift assessments are complete with signature, proper discharge processes are followed, pain assessment tool is complete, medical history/reconciliation process is followed, MAR is complete, all applicable documentation is completed, supervising, evaluating, and finalizing the patient record, transcribing physician orders, utilizing the correct documentation tools and procedures; accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict; cooperates, helps others and improves the performance of the unit; completes all mandatory unit, education, and hospital requirements; utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; maintains unit in a neat and orderly fashion; demonstrates the ability to provided competent patient care to the following patient populations: Pediatric, Adolescent, Adults and Geriatric; cares for patients on Intraaortic Balloon Pump (IABP), Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD); pulls arterial sheaths; performs EKG interpretation; performs hemodynamic monitor set-up, maintenance, monitoring, and use inclusive of arterial lines, flow directed catheters, ICP lines; manages patients receiving temporary/permanent cardiac pacing; initiates and titrates medications (including emergency meds, vasoactive, antiarrhythmic, insulin infusion, sedation infusions, blood and blood components; manages patients being mechanically ventilated; uses SVO2, SJO2, Camion monitors and temperature management devices; follows unit standards for documentation (alarm limits, turning, suctioning, tubing, infusions and dressing changes; maintains accurate I & O cumulative totals; assists with shift duty assignments or serves as staff nurse as needed; identifies, organizes and directs activities to utilize resources, personnel, and material to meet the needs of the patient and nursing staff communicates with the Nurse Manager and Nurse Administrator on an ongoing basis regarding: changes in unit status, patient related issues, staffing issues, quality management issues and other events as they evolve; acts as first line in problem resolution with other departments and any patient complaints; assists with shift duty assignments or serves as staff nurse as needed; verifies that emergency equipment is functions; participates on committees as assigned; participates in Performance Improvement activities through quality measurement or participation of PDSA as assigned; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required. Qualifications Graduation from an accredited school of nursing meeting the minimum standards set by the state of Alabama, two years of professional nursing experience, and licensure with the state of Alabama as a registered nurse.
