Short Description The Graduate Nurse (GN) is a professional care-giver who, as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team, assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame and who supervises and provides care to these patients utilizing the nursing process including the therapeutic use of self.The GN holds a temporary emergency RN license and shall be eligible to work only under supervision in an acute care facility licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health. JOB TITLE : PACU RN PRN GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES : Assists in provision of nursing care to patients in an Ambulatory Surgical Center setting. Assumes total responsibility for patient care in accordance with physician's orders and centers policies. The center operates Monday through Friday with shifts starting as early as 0530, the closing shift stays until the last patient is discharged (on average 4pm, however can be longer depending on the patient acuity). We have two operating rooms and serve 8-9 patients per day, usually with only one surgeon. Seven Preop/ PACU bays are assigned to a patient for use in both phases of care, and the nursing staff adjust their assignments accordingly. The majority of patients receive spinal anesthesia in preop and during recovery require ambulation of 100 feet. Discharge teaching requires attention to detail as these are all outpatients. INCU has critically care-trained RNs who support the patient's needs and care for ventilated patients. South 10 also has 2 negative pressure isolation rooms with an anti-room that is used when needed for specific isolation needs. We do multidisciplinary rounds Monday – Friday. This involves the patient in their care and allows the team members to collaborate with the patient to give them the best possible care and appropriate discharge to home or other facilities.
