Evaluates patient care through assessment, planning, intervention, re-evaluation, written documentation, observation, and comparison to established standards and administers nursing care to patients, as needed, to maintain clinical skills, assess particular patient requirements and support staff. Assumes role of patient advocate respecting guidelines found in Patient Bill of Rights. Communicates with patient, significant others and health professionals regarding care for patient. Maintains confidentiality of patient record and patient, physician, staff, or other healthcare provider information, whether verbal or written. Participates in and provides direction for teaching of patients and significant others. Cooperates with clinical instructors in planning, implementing, and evaluating students’ clinical experience. Assumes responsibility for own personal continuing education and developmental needs; attends meetings, workshops, and conventions to enrich personal knowledge, growth, and skill in providing clinical care. Serves on committees in patient care/nursing, hospital-wide or professional nursing organizations. Performs additional related duties as assigned.
