Position Purpose The Alert Team in the Crisis Care Center provides optimal care utilizing knowledge and skills within the context of evidence based psychiatric nursing practice and the theory of human caring. Nature and Scope The psychiatric registered nurse on the Alert Team must be able to work interdependently within a team framework and demonstrate competency with mental health/chemical dependency assessment, interventions, and referral. The incumbent must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. The incumbent must be able to initiate contact with internal and external resources on behalf of the client. Working knowledge of the 12-step recovery process, and the ability to empower clients to use their own internal resources as well as to access relevant external services is essential. This person must demonstrate the ability to collaborate with patients and their families and various caregivers in different settings. This person must have thorough knowledge of community resources and be capable of making appropriate referrals. This position provides direct patient care including assessment, documentation, patient education, care planning, counseling, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, case management, and medication management.
