Roles and Responsibilities: Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans. Assesses patient physical condition. Reviews history & physical, vital signs, diagnostic studies, reports any abnormalities. Conducts pre- and post-operative education. Assess knowledge level, ability to understand and coping mechanisms of patient and support system and educate as needed. Appropriately utilizes Universal Protocol per Cayuga Medical Center policy. Communicates and documents monitoring and physiologic responses to interventions (e.g. Medications, vital signs, LOC, skin color, change in physical status, etc.) to alert surgeon/anesthesiologist of changes that may require medical intervention.
