Overview The Oncology Nurse Navigator (ONN) is the main point of contact for an assigned group of cancer patients, their families, caregivers, and referring physicians. The ONN demonstrates excellent critical thinking skills and works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, allied health providers, and administrative support staff to identify and overcome barriers to care, ensure care is seamless, provide timely access to care, and provide education and support throughout the patient's cancer continuum. The ONN organizes and facilitates weekly multidisciplinary tumor conferences for the assigned disease site group(s) to ensure case materials such as radiology, pathology, and outside treatment notes are assembled before the conference. Demonstrates strong communication and organizational skills. - Ability to communicate using telephones, computer systems. - Answers telephone promptly and politely, identifying self, title, and department. Receives and sends messages in an accurate and timely fashion. - Communicates with the patients, family, and members of the healthcare team in a concise, tactful, and considerate manner. Must represent the hospital in a professional courteous manner, while being sensitive to how others perceive both verbal and non-verbal communications. Other Duties: - Assists in the orientation of new personnel and serves as a role model to other employees. - Demonstrates willingness to accept non-routine work assignments as appropriate. - Encouraged to participate in community activities. - Attends and participates in unit council (70% attendance). Qualifications Education - High School Diploma or GED required. - Must be currently enrolled in a licensed nursing program. Experience - Current enrollment in an accredited licensed nursing program required.
