Staff on this unit are highly proficient in pre-operative and intra-operative support as well as immediate post-operative phases of cardiovascular procedures. This includes open heart surgery, ventricular assist device implantation, and various interventional procedures including transcatheter aortic valve replacement. Acute cardiology and heart failure patients also receive care in CVICU, along with overflow medical and surgical intensive care patients. Staff expertly manage all types of invasive lines, medications, hemodynamic needs, intra-aortic balloon pumps, continuous dialysis and ultrafiltration machines, and various ventricular assist devices. The success of their nursing staff is their number one priority and is supported through their encouraging environment of comradery and mentorship.
