Perform point of care testing such as: strep, mono, glucose, influenza, Urine pregnancy, Urinalysis, blood glucose levels. Dispense and document medications and other treatment modalities. Insure sterile technique, instrument cleaning and sterilization, proper use of the autoclave. Schedule and coordinate necessary records for ancillary care for patients. Assist providers with exams and testing (pelvic exams, eye irrigations and ear irrigations, I & D’s and splinting/ ortho-glass preparation Perform occupational medicine testing such as: urine drug screens, breath alcohol testing, audiogram, and DOT physicals Maintain confidentiality with all patient information (HIPAA). Ensures equipment is in working order. Reports equipment malfunctions to manager. Logs laboratory procedures completed. Processes related paperwork using computer equipment as directed. Responsible for patient call backs, scheduling physician referrals; specialist’s referrals and pharmacy issues; and patient’s education. Maintains examination rooms, sterilization of equipment and stocks necessary medical supplies. Performs duties to ensure good patient flow. Registration duties: explain to patients' accepted insurances and those out of network and knowledgeable of all pricing. Properly collect and record payments, complete registration screen in a timely manner. Travel to care centers within designated region Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal information Cleans and stocks the site with other members of the team Training other team members. Additional job responsibilities may be assigned. 1-2 years previous experience working in a physician practice or clinic setting is preferred. Assist with wound care, dressing changes, bandaging, irrigation of eyes and ears, and other clinical procedures. Initiate and monitor IV infusions when appropriately trained and permitted by state regulations. Perform phlebotomy and prepare specimens for laboratory testing. Perform CLIA-waived laboratory testing in accordance with established procedures. Conduct in-office diagnostic testing, including but not limited to: Electrocardiograms (EKGs) Vision screenings Pulse oximetry Peak flow testing Oxygen administration as ordered Inhalation treatments Spirometry Perform PT/INR testing using approved equipment (CoaguChek/Coag-Sense) and glucose testing using a glucometer. Complete laboratory quality controls and maintain required testing logs. Clean, disinfect, and sterilize reusable instruments and properly dispose of contaminated materials in accordance with infection prevention standards. Clinical Documentation & Care Coordination: Accurately document patient encounters, treatments, diagnostic results, procedures, supplies utilized, and telephone encounters within the EMR. Complete outbound and inbound patient communications, including: Appointment reminders Medication reminders Transitional Care Management (TCM) — Medicare-supported outreach within 2 days of hospital or facility discharge to reduce readmissions and support safe care transitions Preventive care outreach Support Annual Wellness Visits (AWVs) by preparing Health Risk Assessments (HRAs), updating preventive care records, and ensuring completion of required documentation. Assist in patient outreach, scheduling of preventive screenings, and documentation of completed services. Care coordination activities Maintain patient medical records in accordance with organizational policies and HIPAA requirements. Administrative & Operational Support: Professionally manage front office responsibilities, including: Answering incoming telephone calls Greeting patients Scheduling appointments Patient registration and check-in/check-out Processing referrals Prescription refill coordination Routing clinical and administrative inquiries Monitor inventory levels of medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and disposable clinical items, and assist with ordering as needed. General Summary of Position The Medical Assistant performs clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under the supervision of a physician/provider and/or a registered nurse. Ensures ongoing compliance with regulatory accreditation and quality/safety standards by maintaining and auditing temperature logs ensuring medication supplies are current/unexpired checking and maintaining emergency equipment area free of clutter and other related tasks. Participates in population management activities including an awareness of the populations served and engages the patient in self-management support care/health goal setting pre-visit planning and the capturing of information that leads to health care improvement activities. Performs selected patient and laboratory testing consistent with the scope of the practice including but not limited to Point of Care Testing tuberculosis skin testing electrocardiography pulmonary function tests and vision and hearing testing (dependent upon provider and site requirements). Removes sutures/staples after the provider has examined the patient and written the appropriate order. Documents these activities in the patient's electronic medical record (EMR) or other venues based on policy. Documents clinically related activities accurately in the patient's EMR; performs required patient follow-up: to include pap smears Pb levels HIV mammograms and STD's. Collects and processes specimens completes requisitions and documents in logbook or other applicable forms/records. Provides escort for patients and assists with patient discharge activities. May perform phlebotomy. Utilizes the EMR to propose patient medication refills for provider approval. Completes requisitions for tests (if applicable). Contacts insurance companies for Pre-authorizations for patient medications and specialty referrals including insurance authorization.
