Overview POSITION SUMMARY: The Certified Medical Assistant Care Guide is responsible for registering, collecting payments, rooming, assisting the provider with care and treatment, discharging, and following-up with patients. It is the role of the Care Guide to companion patients and their “secondary guests” through the entire experience to maximize clinical excellence, reduce treatment times, and maximize the patient experience; before, during, and after the patient visit. The Care Guide is responsible for assisting the provider with front office and back-office duties in the outpatient management of patients on a rotating basis. This role is responsible for a variety of clinical functions within a clinic setting requiring knowledge and integration of available standards, resources, and data; discretion; good judgment; diplomacy; decision making; and a customer service attitude. Acting as the patient advocate, the Care Guide has continuous contact with providers, patients, patient families/significant others, community agencies, and patient care staff and management. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High school diploma/GED and completion of a medical assistant (MA) program, certification course, or equivalent MA training/experience. Licensure/ Certification: CMA-Certified Medical Assistant current certification by one the following approved certifying agencies : American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), earning CMA credential. American Medical Technologists (AMT), earning RMA credential. National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), earning NCMA credential. National HealthCare Association (NHA), earning CCMA credential. American Heart Association (BLS for Health Care Providers) to be completed within 2 weeks of hire date. National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP). American Allied Health (AAH). Other Skills/ Knowledge: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: Previous experience as a medical office assistant or CNA or equivalent, previous experience with an electronic health record and phlebotomy. Assists with other office functions to support patient care and office operations. Follows all established protocols, policies, procedures and standardized workflows. Essential Responsibilities Using the team based approach, assists in the coordination of patient care under supervision of the health care provider. Prepares and rooms patients within the clinical practice setting according to standardized work flows. Accurately obtains patient vital signs, documents patient information, patient history, tobacco, and medication screening. May assist in the administration of depression screening tools. Completes annual wellness visit screenings. Reviews, updates and screens medication list in the EHR. Reviews social history with patient and updates record. If applicable, pends/''cues up'' orders for required age appropriate screenings, patient prescriptions, refills, or other orders based on AHN approved protocols. Performs back office testing following approved AHN protocols and policies. Assists providers with examination and procedures. May serve as a scribe with additional training. Provides follow up with patients at designated intervals via patient's preferred method (telephone, electronic, written) in accordance with provider instructions. Notifies patients of test results under the direction of provider in a timely manner. Prepares exam room for patient visit. Ensures adequate inventory of medical supplies. Ensures all patient treatment areas are at all times stocked with the appropriate supplies using established inventory standards. Cleans and sterilizes instruments per established AHN approved policy and manufacturer's guidelines. Accurately performs lab controls and equipment checks as assigned. Administers and accurately documents medications in accordance with policy and safe practice. Documents accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) according to established standards and work flows. Accurately performs clerical office functions and other duties as assigned. May require floating/travel between physician office locations. Summary Under direct supervision of LIP (licensed independent practitioner), RN (registered nurse), NM/ANM (nurse manager/assistant nurse manager) or other licensed designee, functions as a member of the patient care team. Performs technical, patient care and related clerical functions in the urgent care setting by coordinating all elements of the patient visit.
