We take any patient needing further time to be observed from the ED. If a patient needs further testing or monitoring and is not appropriate to stay in the ED, then our department will take them. Our top two diagnoses are chest pain and abdominal pain. We also accept patients that are sent from surrounding free standing EDs with the same criteria. Our department takes patients with an OBS status and at times, when needed, we may take overflow from other departments. If a patient needs more care than what can be done within 24-48 hours, we will transfer to an inpatient unit. The department’s mission is to deliver safe quality care to every patient in a timely manner. Most people join this team because they have an interest in emergency medicine. This department is a great place to solidify your med/surg skills, develop excellent time management and to ‘get your feet wet’ on emergency room patients. You will receive all types of patients and work alongside a mid-level provider (PA or NP) with every patient. We are a close-knit team and get opportunities to learn about many different disease processes. The acute wound care nurse works in partnership with other registered nurses, ancillary staff, and physicians to provide education and recommendations for an individualized plan of care for patients who require their specialized training and expertise. QUALIFICATIONS License /Certification Required: CA RN license BLS Education Preferred: BSN, MSN, or currently enrolled in RN-BSN program. Assists in development and implementation of policies, procedures, and practice guidelines to improve quality of care and nursing practice. Participates on interdisciplinary teams that evaluate clinical practice or health services relating to patient/resident care. Participates in QI studies: involved in task force or committee. Implements suggestions for improving outcomes per unit study results. Independently identifies problematic areas and recommends problem solving. Shares findings of studies, audits with others. Seeks improvement independently. Collaborates and communicates with the patient/resident, family, and other health care providers. Utilizes peer review and observation. Monitors documentation for appropriate referrals: Formulates the plan of care and involves patient/residents in decisions related to care and the delivery services. Makes referrals, including provisions for continuity of care, as needed. Is a primary clinical expert and resource for patients with complex wounds, or ostomy care issues, along with incontinence issues. Is a resource for staff and physicians to provide guidance and recommendations for treatment within this patient population, helping to provide an individualized treatment plan utilizing the approved and available products within our organization. Assists staff with the use of these products and ensures the team understands how to follow the treatment plan. Manages and prioritizes orders to ensure the service is provided to patients with the greatest need first to maximize quality of care, and minimize length of stay. Ensures collaboration between staff, physicians, other disciplines and departments involved in the care of the patient. Keeps lines of communication open. Provides staff with support, guidance, and educations regarding wound/ostomy/incontinence care and alerts the Nurse Manager as needed for any remediation issues. Makes fiscally responsible decisions regarding use of time, supplies, and equipment, and considers the organizational fiscal issues when making decisions regarding treatment plans, and the prevention of increase length of stay in the hospital. Addendum (essential for specific dept) TEAM LEADER: Is a primary clinical resource for staff on assigned unit. Is a role model and mentor for staff. Acts as the Nurse Manager Representative in his/her absence. Provides leadership and support for staff through effective problem solving and decision making. Is a resource for staff: Manages Staff and Patient flow: Coordinates care in high-risk/emergent situations and keeps Nurse Manager/Director/Nursing Supervisor aware of critical patients and any unit issues. Ensures collaboration between staff, physicians, other providers, and departments involved in the care of patients on their unit. Keeps lines of communication open. Ensures patient care issues are documented and reported. Assures the appropriate nurse completes a Statement of Concern. Understands and utilizes Medical Staff and Kaweah Health's chain of command. Provides employee guidance and alerts the Nurse Manager of counseling needs. Provides patient care as needed. Makes fiscally responsible decisions regarding staffing and use of patient supplies. Additional Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area. Knowledgeable of growth and development for all patient/family cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age specific needs. Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary Position functions as a Medical Assistant in a busy clinical site for the providers and provider teams within the Department of Pediatric Neurology. Prepares and maintains exam rooms. Directs the patient flow, obtains vital signs and records meaningful use discrete data into the electronic health record. Ensures the overall smooth running of the clinical office. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Patient Care Duties: Interacts directly with patients in clinic setting and completes clinical tasks, which may include obtaining vital signs, conducting EKGs, completing a phlebotomy and verifying medications. Prepares for office hours by doing tasks, such as obtaining charts, scheduling tests and preparing exam rooms. Assists with examinations, procedures and lab tests. May assist with renewal and authorization of non-narcotic medications per standing orders and department guidelines. May administer medications under the order of physicians or nurse practitioner (this includes vaccines and intramuscular and subcutaneous injections). Communication and Documentation: Directs patient flow, assists with special procedures/treatments and completes requisitions. Routes phone messages, patient questions and telephone communications to appropriate personnel. Assists with care coordination by doing tasks outlined under the department guidelines, such as calling patients with test results; scheduling appointments; assisting with return calls; scheduling surgeries, diagnostic procedures and admissions; and monitoring new and return patient contacts, including scheduling of appointments and follow-up appointments. Completes necessary paperwork and documentation in a timely manner. Answers basic questions from patient/family regarding treatments, diagnosis and procedures. May complete requisitions/orders per WashU guidelines. Equipment and Supplies: Monitors supply inventory, ensuring adequate supplies, equipment or garments are available and that they comply with regulations. Cleans and stocks exam rooms and sterilizes instruments. Other Functions: Maintains required HIPAA compliance, maintains skills/competencies and participates in in-services, staff programs, continuing education and cross-training programs according to established standards and WashU policies. Complies with OSHA, state and federal regulatory sources/standards. Participates in quality improvement activities to ensure appropriate clinical outcomes. Performs other duties as assigned. Medical Assistant credentials must be obtained from in-person proctored exams from the following certifying bodies: NHA, AAMA or AMT. In-person proctored credentials from other certifying bodies may be accepted upon approval from Human Resources. Substitutions include: Graduate of an accredited nursing program (such as RN/LPN), or comparable allied health training program with a minimum of one year of relevant experience.
