We take any patient needing further time to be observed from the ED. If a patient needs further testing or monitoring and is not appropriate to stay in the ED, then our department will take them. Our top two diagnoses are chest pain and abdominal pain. We also accept patients that are sent from surrounding free standing EDs with the same criteria. Our department takes patients with an OBS status and at times, when needed, we may take overflow from other departments. If a patient needs more care than what can be done within 24-48 hours, we will transfer to an inpatient unit. The department’s mission is to deliver safe quality care to every patient in a timely manner. Most people join this team because they have an interest in emergency medicine. This department is a great place to solidify your med/surg skills, develop excellent time management and to ‘get your feet wet’ on emergency room patients. You will receive all types of patients and work alongside a mid-level provider (PA or NP) with every patient. We are a close-knit team and get opportunities to learn about many different disease processes.
