Collaborates with the Director of Nursing the development of the unit budget necessary to carry out the patient care program; supports approved budget and goals. Ensures maintenance of appropriate staffing of the adult unit reflective of the census and patient acuity. Manages the adult unit fte’s within defined parameters. Trains and develops unit staff to meet the needs of the adult population. Assists Director of Nursing with Performance Improvement initiatives for the adult unit. Monitors and improves patient satisfaction scores on the adult unit. Assists Utilization Review Dept. in monitoring the lengths of stay of patients taking into consideration the patient’s clinical presentation, previous response to treatment, resources available and requirements of external regulatory agents. Develops positive rapport with the Medical Staff. Participates in committees as requested by the Director of Nursing to enhance the quality of patient care. Investigates incidents on the adult unit, submits reports to Administration, Risk Manager and other outside agencies as appropriate. Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to work in an environment that provides care to adult patients. Demonstrates clear understanding of the importance of patient, visitor and staff safety. Monitors general condition of the adult unit. Notifies appropriate personnel regarding problems and potential risks to safety. Adheres to the standards and commitments of the Hospital and Departmental Service Excellence Action Plan.
