The Oncology Rapid Assessment Clinic (ORAC) provides urgent, same day or next day evaluation and treatment for oncology patients experiencing acute symptoms related to their disease or treatment. The Medical Assistant (MA) supports safe, efficient, and patient-centered care delivery in a fast-paced ambulatory oncology setting, working closely with RNs, APPs, physicians, and the interdisciplinary team. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity . You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. The Medical Assistant (MA) will function as a key member of the care team, supporting efficient clinic operations and patient throughput. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced setting. Essential Job Functions: Know and practice the University of Chicago Medical Center’s Pride Values and Patient Centered Care Definition and Principles. Perform any or all duties involving direct patient care as assigned by the registered nurse or physician and within the scope of the Nursing policies and procedures. Appropriately implement and document patient and family education as delegated by the RN or physician. Obtain and record vital signs. Perform tests, i.e., pregnancy tests, urinalysis, and hemocult, etc., specific to the patient population. Document all aspects of patient care according to hospital policies and procedures. Perform phlebotomy services. Assist with the collection of specimens. Perform labeling and logging of specimens in compliance with hospital standards. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: A completed High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited body A current certificate of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training Must have phlebotomy experience Experience working in a community health setting Completion of a certified/registered program for medical assistants that is recognized by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross Preferred Qualifications: Considerable skill in communicating verbally, in determining priorities, and in organizing work; ability to maintain an organized, alphabetized filing system General working knowledge of a PC. Excel, Microsoft Word for Windows, OASIS, and EPIC Computerized appointment scheduling experience Ability to handle stress in a fast-paced environment Considerable skill in handling sensitive public contacts with discretion, tact, and courtesy when dealing with patients, coworkers, and physicians Physical ability to perform stocking, lifting, and transporting supplies and instruments Experience in oncology, ambulatory care, or acute care setting preferred Phlebotomy experience strongly preferred Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team-based environment Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities Position Details: Job Type/FTE: Full Time (1.0 FTE) Shift: Days – 8-hour shift Unit/Department: Oncology Rapid Assessment Clinic (ORAC) CBA Code: Non-Union In this role, we anticipate that you will generally work approximately 40 hours per week. We anticipate that you will generally be scheduled to work the Day shift, from approximately 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, and will not be scheduled for on-call shifts. We anticipate you will be scheduled to work 100% at the Hyde Park campus. The days of the week that you are scheduled will be Monday-Friday. You will not be scheduled to work on weekends. 
JOB SUMMARY: Provides residents with daily nursing care in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, facility policies and as may be directed by the Charge Nurse, Supervisor, Assistant Director of Nursing, Director of Nursing or Administrator to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. May be required to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, etc., in excess of fifty (50) pounds throughout the day. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc. including exposure to the (HIV) Aids and Hepatitis B viruses. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Ensure that all nursing procedures and protocols are followed in accordance with established policies, including dress code. Provides assistance with activities of daily living to a specific number of residents and/or as directed by the staff nurse. Assists in developing a written plan of care for each customer that identifies the problems/needs of the customer. Attends and actively participates in resident care plan conference, and Resident Council and/or Family Council when invited. Reports all concerns, complaints made by the customer or their family to the Administrator. Makes rounds to assure customers are safe and comfortable. Maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department. Participates in In-service Education Programs. Assists in implementing and maintaining an effective orientation program that orients the new Ladies and Gentlemen of Alden to the facility, his/her department, and its policies and procedures. Recommends to the Director of Nursing the equipment and supply needs of the department. Inventories and stores the new customer’s personal possessions. Assists customers with packing personal possessions when they are transferred to a new room or when being discharged. Participates in and receives the nursing report upon reporting for duty. Maintains intake and output records as instructed. Checks and reports bowel movements and character of stools. Makes occupied and unoccupied beds, changes bed linens, and straightens rooms, closet, and drawers. Notifies housekeeping if mattress in need of cleaning or replacement. Answers call lights promptly, answer telephone calls as needed and run errands as requested. Obtains blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, heights, and weights as needed. Does complete check of skin condition when dressing, undressing, turning/repositioning, etc. Reports any skin abnormalities to the Staff Nurse. Observes customer’s physical condition, attitude, reactions, appetite, etc., and reports any changes and/or unusual findings to the Nurse/RCC so care plan can be updated. Performs personal services for customer’s (i.e., reading, writing letters, etc.) as time allows. Encourages customers to help themselves and promotes self-care in aiding rehabilitation. Assists with care of dying and expired customers. Records resident food/fluid intake. Completes meal monitor form as indicated. Reports changes in resident’s eating habits to the Staff Nurse. Keeps customers water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water on each shift unless contraindicated. Serves between meals and bedtime snacks. Wears transfer belt at all times and utilizes as needed. Keeps the nurses’ call system within easy reach of the resident. Reports all hazardous equipment and conditions to the Staff Nurse immediately. Participates in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s Quality Assurance program for the Nursing Department. Performs other related duties as assigned.
