The Registered Nurse (RN) at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute provides evidence-based oncology nursing care across inpatient care units. Shift: Day shift and night shift positions available Schedule: Per Diem Primary Duties And Responsibilities Deliver direct oncology nursing care, including comprehensive assessment, individualized care planning, symptom management, and evaluation of patient outcomes for adult oncology patients and families. Administer antineoplastic agents and supportive therapies per protocols and ONS standards; verify orders, complete independent double checks, and monitor for and manage infusion reactions and adverse events. Manage central venous access devices (e.g., ports, PICCs); perform access, maintenance, blood draws, and blood product transfusions per policy; ensure safe use of infusion equipment and PPE. Provide patient and family education on diagnosis, treatment plans, self-care, side-effect management, and discharge instructions; coordinate multidisciplinary resources and community referrals. Document care in Epic in accordance with regulatory and institutional standards; maintain accurate medication administration records, flowsheets, and patient education documentation. Participate in quality and safety activities (e.g., safety huddles, infection prevention, hazardous drug handling, Joint Commission readiness) and support clinical research protocols as applicable (e.g., protocol adherence, specimen handling, adverse event reporting). Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, social workers, and research staff; contribute to effective team communication, handoffs, and patient throughput. May serve as charge nurse, preceptor, or mentor; provides functional direction to licensed and unlicensed support personnel in accordance with scope of practice and institutional policies. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Proficiency in chemotherapy/immunotherapy administration per ONS guidelines; working knowledge of oncology pharmacology and side-effect profiles. Competence in central line care and infusion therapy; ability to administer and monitor blood products per policy. Ability to recognize and respond to oncologic emergencies (e.g., infusion reactions, febrile neutropenia, tumor lysis syndrome) and escalate care appropriately. Strong patient education skills with ability to tailor communication to diverse populations and varying health literacy levels; commitment to culturally competent, trauma-informed care. Proficiency with EMR systems (Epic preferred); accurate and timely clinical documentation and electronic medication administration. Knowledge of infection prevention, hazardous drug handling (USP ), PPE requirements, and universal precautions. Effective triage, prioritization, and time management skills for varying acuity in a fast-paced ambulatory environment. Collaborative team skills; ability to work across interdisciplinary teams and support clinical research activities. Critical thinking, clinical judgment, problem-solving, and ability to function effectively under stress. Professionalism, accountability, and adherence to ANA Code of Ethics and institutional policies. Minimum Job Qualifications Associate degree, Nursing. A Bachelor’s degree in nursing is strongly preferred, and candidates with an associate degree must complete a BSN within 4 years. 1 year of recent experience as a Registered Nurse preferred. Acute care nursing experience preferred; oncology/hematology experience in an Inpatient or ambulatory infusion clinic setting preferred. Experience with electronic medical records (e.g., Epic) preferred. License/Certification/Registration Required Current unrestricted Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license required. ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certificate required or obtained within 6 months of hire (role-dependent). Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred depending on work area. Supervisory Responsibilities No Patient Contact Direct and continuous contact with adult oncology patients and families in an inpatient environment. Special Working Conditions Exposure to hazardous drugs and biohazards; adherence to PPE and safe handling policies required. May require rotating shifts or extended hours based on operational and patient care needs. The Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) is responsible for coordinating and providing safe, high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing surgical and procedural services. Working collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team, the OR RN oversees patient care and nursing activities within the operating/procedure room and helps ensure an efficient, organized, and safe surgical environment. The OR RN reviews the patient's medical record and planned procedure, verifies patient identity and surgical site, participates in the surgical time-out, and ensures that appropriate equipment, supplies, medications, instruments, and required imaging are available prior to the procedure. The nurse assists with patient positioning, surgical preparation, medication administration as ordered, specimen management, surgical counts, and intraoperative monitoring and documentation. The OR RN is responsible for maintaining and monitoring aseptic and sterile technique, identifying and addressing breaks in technique, and confirming that instruments and supplies have been appropriately sterilized or high-level disinfected according to facility policy and applicable standards of practice. The RN advocates for the patient's safety, privacy, dignity, comfort, and individual needs throughout the surgical experience. In addition to direct patient care responsibilities, the OR RN supports efficient operating room operations by organizing workflow, appropriately delegating activities, assisting with room turnover, maintaining physician preference cards, monitoring supply and equipment needs, and using resources responsibly. Responsibilities for Assistant Director of Nursing: Assist the Director of Nursing in collaborating with the Administrator, management staff, and consultants to plan all aspects of nursing operations, including setting priorities, coordinating initiatives, and assigning responsibilities to support optimal resident care. Serve as the care champion for our 5-chair dialysis den, ensuring a high standard of clinical excellence, coordination, and compassionate care for residents receiving services. Monitor each nursing unit’s activities, communicate policies effectively, evaluate performance, provide constructive feedback, and assist with coaching, mentoring, and disciplinary processes as needed. Develop and maintain positive, professional relationships with residents, family members, staff, and members of the interdisciplinary medical team. Conduct regular rounds to monitor the delivery of nursing care, coordination with support services, cleanliness and presentation of resident areas, and staff morale, while proactively ensuring residents’ needs are met. Carry out, coordinate, and oversee administrative functions related to Nursing Services to support efficient and compliant operations. Qualifications for Assistant Director of Nursing: Must possess a valid, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts. A nursing degree from an accredited college or university is preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience in a hospital, nursing care center, or related healthcare setting. Supervisory experience with knowledge of leadership principles, staff development, and teaching practices required. Experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices strongly preferred. Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and respectfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the public. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served. Strong team orientation with the ability to lead by example and contribute to a collaborative and supportive work environment. Knowledge of nursing practices, medical procedures, and applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines governing nursing care facilities. Position Summary We are seeking Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to join our clinical team and support the medical needs of adult clients in residential substance use treatment. We are hiring for multiple full-time and part-time opportunities across evening and overnight shifts. The LPN plays a key role in client care through nursing assessments, medication administration, and collaboration with the broader clinical team. New graduates are encouraged to apply—we're happy to provide the training and support needed for success. Key Responsibilities Conduct initial nursing assessments for new admissions. Administer medications and monitor for therapeutic effects and side effects. Deliver care in alignment with detoxification protocols. Complete COWS and CIWA assessments in accordance with established protocols. Provide education to clients regarding medications and health conditions. Support medical providers during assessments and medication management appointments. Maintain accurate documentation while upholding strict confidentiality. Ensure medical equipment is functioning properly and safely. Support overall facility operations with professionalism and compassion. Perform other nursing-related duties as assigned. Qualifications Licensure: Active, unencumbered LPN license in the state of Massachusetts. Certifications: Current CPR/BLS, AED, and First Aid certification required. Experience: Previous nursing experience is preferred, but new graduates are welcome to apply. Training will be provided. Preferred: Experience working with individuals with substance use and co-occurring disorders and familiarity with detoxification protocols.
