Student Nurse Summer Immersion - Cardiomyopathy Center

The Cardiomyopathy Center (CMC) is a 16 bed intermediate care unit specializing in the care of patients with advanced heart failure. This unit is comprised of both medical and surgical patients receiving inotropic support and diuresis, often requiring hemodynamic monitoring through a pulmonary artery catheter (PA catheter). Many of our patients are also being evaluated for heart transplants and ventricular assist device (VAD) surgery. The CMC also cares for the patients at Tufts Medical Center that are post-heart transplant and post-VAD surgery. Patients following surgery often have PA catheters, epicardial pacing wires, chest tubes. This is a summer position primarily geared towards nursing students to work full-time hours on a rotating schedule (days, nights, and weekends).
