A high degree of independence, initiative, assertiveness, and diplomacy are necessary in dealing with faculty, staff, and patients in a complex environment. S/he works with physician leadership in setting and accomplishing annual goals. S/he works with staff to develop, monitor and maintain systems pertaining to all aspects of nursing care for the practice. The clinical nurse ensures a safe environment for patients and staff. The clinical nurse is responsible for providing direct nursing care to patients in the Clinic. Duties include but not limited to, triage of phone calls, completing the requested tasks in APeX messages, reconstitution of medications. The clinical nurse provides education to patients regarding their illnesses and education for procedure preparation and procedure related questions and education regarding patient medications. The nurse responds to patient questions regarding medication doses and side effects; he/she informs patients about normal/routine pathology and laboratory results, performs injections, teaching of injectable medications;; facilitates completion of disability forms, work letters and will assist the faculty and staff in securing authorizations for tests and treatments.
