The Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) is an 18 bed unit that specializes in the care of children with complex congenital cardiac disease. Surgical procedures include repair of congenital heart defects and permanent pacemaker insertion. Medical interventions include management of acute/chronic heart failure, septic shock, renal and respiratory failure. Critically ill children are cared for with such treatment modalities as mechanical ventilation, inhaled nitric oxide, ventricular assist devices, temporary pacemaker therapy, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy and acute hemodialysis. The Nurse Practitioner will act as a full member of the team taking responsibility for the safe delivery of care in collaboration with attending physicians, fellows and residents. This team member will meet productivity expectations as set forth by the Division Chief, performing any duties related to patient care activities that are appropriate and clearly delineated. May be required to work alternating shifts or flexible hours including days, nights, weekends, or take on-call and/or call-back shifts to support regular and surge volume needs. These staffing changes will fluctuate with patient volume, acuity and staffing matrices Travel Requirements May be required to travel to satellite locations to support clinical practice care services as needed to ensure patient access and continuity of care. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR) continuously maintained. May onboard with AHA or Red Cross CPR and then transition to AHA upon first renewal. Advanced Specialty Courses (ASC) according to Attachment A ASC courses should be taken at earliest opportunity, but must be completed within timeframes specified on Attachment A and continuously maintained ongoing. National Certification in specialty must be attempted within 4 years of hire date for eligible role and continuously maintained thereafter.
