Job Description Registered Nurse (RN -CN 1), Nights, Burn/ENT Special Care Unit, ONA Burn/ENT Special Care Unit (BESCU)- 5 South The Burn/ENT Special Care Unit (BESCU) provides specialized care for a diverse group of older adolescent and adult patients. The service manages individuals with acute burn injuries, complex wounds, and various skin conditions requiring advanced treatment and reconstruction. In addition, BESCU delivers expert care for Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) patients undergoing major head and neck cancer surgery and reconstructive procedures, including free flap reconstruction. The unit also supports patients with newly created surgical airways such as tracheostomies, laryngectomies, and stents, as well as those receiving treatment for airway stenosis and other complex ENT reconstruction surgeries. The inpatient ICU is a 10-bed unit with variable acuity. Duties Description The RN 1 serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team performing various nursing duties, including coordinating and monitoring all aspects of medical care for residents. Duties And Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To Provide direct nursing care to residents, including comprehensive nursing assessments, administering medications, implementing physician’s treatment orders, transcribing orders, and collecting specimens for laboratory analysis or culture. Provide health education to residents, their guardians and staff and participate in interdisciplinary support plan meetings. Represent nursing on the resident’s support team, provide information on nursing needs, consult and coordinate with support teams and other health care disciplines to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate resident’s care. Provide first aid and emergency nursing care. Assess, monitor and document resident’s symptoms, conditions, and care, including diet and physical activity. Identify and report resident’s responses to medications or changes in health status. Monitor resident’s medication, ensuring medications are ordered and available for administration. Meet documentation standards regarding transcribing physician’s orders, nursing progress notes, health charts and support plans. Acts as a liaison to community providers to ensure continuity of care, follow up with community providers, when necessary, advocate for resident’s needs. Participate in discharge planning by securing community appointments to ensure continuity of care. Prepare and maintain accurate and detailed reports electronically using Excel and or Word. Minimum Qualifications Licensed and currently registered to practice nursing in New York State. Must maintain a valid New York State license and registration. For Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) prospective appointees will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable.
