Position Summary To fulfill the needs of patients in a variety of age groups, their family members, and the community by performing varied patient care tasks and functions in accordance with licensure, certification, training, and regulatory requirements. Education Bachelor`s degree in Nursing required. Effective 12/1/11, all new hires will need to have a BSN as a minimum requirement or a Master's degree in Nursing. Manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination are also required as is constant talking and listening in English. Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills, including speech clarity, understanding the information relayed, deductive and inductive reasoning skills (the ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense and the ability to combine pieces of information to/from general rules or conclusion respectively). Considerable walking, standing, sitting, reaching, filing, typing and photocopying required. Ability to perform work accurately and pay attention to details, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure. Ability to function competently in stressful situations and changing work environment related to changing needs of patients with acute, chronic and complex and/or terminal disease processes. Ability to work cooperatively within health system, multidisciplinary team members (i.e. MD's, Rehab, Respiratory, DI, Laboratory, etc). Ability to utilize effective time management skills to set priorities to perform responsibilities, problem solve and deliver care. JOB DESCRIPTION Distinguishing Characteristics Graduate Nurses (T&RC) and Registered Nurses 1 (T&RC) perform similar nursing tasks and activities; coordinate and provide nursing care to individuals in State University of New York teaching and research center hospitals; administer treatments and nursing procedures within established guidelines and as prescribed by licensed health care providers; and consult on nursing matters with treatment teams and other disciplines. Illustrative Duties Graduate Nurse (T&RC) Prepares or assists with preparation of nursing care plans consistent with individuals’ comprehensive treatment plans and medical needs. Carries out treatment procedures, administers medications, and monitors individuals’ conditions. Records notes and maintains individuals’ medical records and nursing care plans, including nursing care, medications, and treatments, reactions to care and treatment, intake and output of liquids and solids, and vital signs.
