Job Requirements POSITION SUMMARY The Assistant Nurse Manager plans, directs and assess’ all unit functions to include evaluation of patient care on a twenty-four (24)-hour basis on an assigned unit. The Assistant Nurse Manager participates in the development and implementation of Health First policies and objectives, scheduling and assignment of personnel, and quality improvement activities. The Assistant Nurse Manager at all times serves as clinical and professional role model to staff and contributes to their professional growth and development. PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES Performs those clinical skills within the scope of practice for which competencies have been validated, ensuring patient and staff safety on the assigned unit, and Contributes to the patient experience to cultivate positive patient satisfaction scores and HCAHP scores for department. Ensures consistent performance of purposeful hourly rounding and bedside shift report; providing support to patient care activities by utilizing nursing processes through the documentation of process and discharge planning. Provides adequate training and appropriate use of the electronic medical record in compliance with established policies, procedures, and expectations. Schedules and assigns personnel on assigned shift to ensure safe, adequate, and appropriate staffing for the unit, ensuring completion in a timely manner and in compliance with the approved unit staffing plan based on patient needs and acuity. Assists with implementation of unit based performance improvement activities resulting in improved operations and patient care outcomes. Participates in the development of policies, procedures, and standards of care for the unit, while implementing and verifying compliance with policies and procedures. Completes assigned audits and monitors accurately and in a timely manner. Identifies opportunities for quality improvement activities on the unit, reporting Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) results to departmental director and shares with associates. Verifies and maintains compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) and other organizational and regulatory agency standards with quality indicators and core measures. Facilitates communication and problem solving with team members, physicians, and administrative personnel. Documents attendance at clinical and management continuing education programs (CEUs) to ensure that knowledge base is current and to promote professional growth and development. Acquires certification in clinical specialty. Work Experience MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Any one of the following: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) OR Internal applicants may be able to receive limited waiver on education requirement if expected to complete BSN program within three (3) of start date OR External applicants may apply if currently enrolled and expected to complete a BSN program within two (2) years of start date. Work Experience: Two (2) years’ experience in acute car clinical environments. Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Florida or endorsement. Collaborates with staff and Charge RN and Medical Director to set annual goals for staff. • Manages the department staffing through the appropriate hiring, firing and disciplinary actions. • Maintains written documentation of all disciplinary meetings in accordance with the established personnel policies and confers with Human Resources and Director of Operations regarding the nature of the disciplinary decisions. • Ensures successful execution of new hire orientation and training, and ICD-9 code training when ICD-10 applicable for new hires and works with Medical Director to ensure mandatory in-services are completed. • Ensures appropriate documentation is completed for current licensure, annual in-service and policy and procedure in-service updates. • Responsible for ensuring all facility employees receive appropriate training according to company policy including company risk management initiatives. • Provides training and guidance to facility staff members to ensure development of clinical competences, providing opportunities for professional growth and encouraging personal growth. • Collaborates with HR regarding providing information to staff pertaining to FMS/FMCNA benefits, Human Resources policies and procedures. • Participates in Corporate and Division specific employee recognition and satisfaction programs. • Maintains a close working relationship with Division and Corporate office personnel and ensures appropriate communication of FMS, Division, and Corporate initiatives, policies and procedures to facility staff. • Utilizes knowledge of FMCNA and FMS services and products to contribute to the growth of the business. • Maintains facility environmental integrity and safety. • Schedules the maintenance and repair of equipment, operating systems, and physical structure of the facility, as needed. • Monitors the security of the facility. • Coordinates inventory/supply management by reviewing monthly inventory count and approving purchase orders for necessary items to ensure cost containment, timely distribution and competitive pricing. • Responsible for efficient utilization of medication, laboratory, inventory, supplies and equipment to achieve supply cost goals following all guidelines established in the FMS/FMS formularies. • Contributes to the development and revision of any applicable policies and procedures for the facility and the pertinent updating and maintenance of the related manuals. • Directs any necessary information gathering, as required, to support billing, billing issues and collection activities. • Coordinates and approves facility payroll. • Responsible for participating in all on-site internal and external (state and federal) surveys. • Reviews new and existing provider contracts for various vendor services, including but not limited to, insurance, laboratory, and facility cleaning. • Performs other related duties as assigned. EDUCATION: • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (RN) • Current RN state licensure EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS: • Experience in clinical nursing. • Additional 6 months chronic or acute dialysis nursing experience. • Demonstrated leadership competencies and management skills for the position, including excellent communication, customer service, continuous quality improvement, relationship development, results orientation, team building, motivating employees, performance management and decision making. • Demonstrated management skills necessary to provide leadership in the supervision of facility personnel and to ensure the delivery of maximum quality care to all patients. • Successfully passed the Ishihara Color Blind Test." Preferred: • Experience in a supervisory/management role, in a medical facility preferred. • Med/surg or ICU/CCU experience preferred. • Proficiency with the Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) - experience with medical database software preferred.
